When did the the "J" buy the old Bar-B? The Big Chief was a favorite of mine.
Oldironfan Thanks this. -
a few of my favorites: the old raccon valley truckstop mm 117 I75, in Tennessee. About any old mom and pop in Mississippi would have great food. One at mm 144 on I55 Pickens Ms, just burned down about a year ago. I used to go all day without food if I knew I would be passing their way, so I could feast on their food. They would serve sweet tea in a huge tumbler that most times you would not need a refill. Jacks ts in Cullman Al is still there, but do you remember when they had the old cinder block bluiding out back for showers? No privacy but incrediable water pressure. If you were a little shy, this shower wouldn't be for you as all showered in th open sourt of like the old high school gym showers. Nobles at exit 5 on I20 in Ga. is still there and still great food.
bthomann and Oldironfan Thank this. -
I highly recommend Cowpoke Cafe on I40 exit 231 in Oklahoma. I had the best hamburger steak ever there thursday. Place looks like a dump, parking lot is gravel, but the food is great and the waitresses very friendly.

Flying J bought the Black River Falls and Des Moines Bar B's probably 10 years ago at least. Has been quite some time. Not sure about the Bar B in Texas. I had only ever been there once.

The Transport Inn Café & Truck Stop was owned and operated by my Father for 25 years in Emporia, Kansas. I used to work there as a teenager after school.
Oldironfan Thanks this. -
My uncle owned the Transport Inn. I just saw my cousin's post after I posted this! haha!

This is an old thread, but I thought of a stop I forgot the name of. As mentioned above, the Racoon Valley TS was on I-75 north of Knoxville. What was the stop on the left side of the interstate just a few miles above them. Decent truck parking and decent food when the roaches were killed off.
Also as far as old stops go...Sugar Hill truck stop, Sugar Hill Road, exit 81, Marion, NC.
Walton 76, Walton, Ky. Exit 171. Across fron the Flying Hook there used to be a Union 76 fuel stop with a restruant. Just a fuel island and a place to eat, and an old garage, which I think is still there. Good food, and many times some decent looking women working in the restruant, and a few nice locals. (Anyone remember "Misty Blue"?
Of course the Burns Brothers at Covington Ky.
Horne's Truck Stop just east of Statesville NC on I-40
The old Key truck Stop just east of Huston Tx on I-10
The Skully Truck Stops, probably already mentioned
Clay's Ferry 76 in Ky while it was still a full service 76 stop. Used to be able to fuel, go in and eat, and your truck would be parked and fuel ticket waiting for you at the desk.bthomann, 650cat425 and Oldironfan Thank this.
