Your total expense cost should not be included in the Fuel Surcharge. The Fuel Surcharge is designed to cover the cost of fuel only...hence its weird and far out name...fuel surcharge. That should be based on the average truck (not yours) fuel usage per mile and the average fuel cost across the country for a gallon of diesel.

Now I know I'm going to get slack for this but I'm going to say it anyhow. A friend and I were just chatting. All the bigger companies use Qualcomm and systems of the like. The majority of those systems are capable of shutting down the trucks. WHAT IF someone hacked those systems shut down all the big companies even for one day. Put some kind of virus in that recognizes when a truck isn't in motion and shut it down then and only then. Think the "vacation" would be heard then?

This is purely hypothetical. I'm not advocating someone to do it. I'm just saying WHAT IF?

Face it guy's...the days of old are gone and are NOT coming back. OO's for as far back as I remember could always pretty much blow money at will. There are still a lot out there that just don't get it and probably never will. Running a business takes dedication, hard work, and a desire to make it work. If you take time to *know* operating costs and profit margin you will have accomplished a huge first step of the process. If you're not strong enough to understand and do what you have to do to maintain a decent profit margin the industry is now primed to leave you behind. One of my best friends of many years lost his truck, his home ( because he wasn't willing to drive a company truck with rules) and eventually his wife. The sad part is he blamed EVERYBODY in the world but himself for what happened. I really sympathize with you for the cost of fuel biting into paychecks the way it is but fuel will NEVER be cheap again strike or not. All the fluff that used to go out the wallet ( un-noticed for the biggest part ) can be enough to make or break in tough times. Tracking expenses and improving areas that are out of line are part of a plan lots of drivers refuse to do.......and are now starting to pay the price for. I would love to see crude prices drop, but it ain't going to happen.

That's funny! Weird and far out name.....LOL

Someone told me the other day that it cost them $1.20 per mile for fuel alone. I guess now I know how they got to that figure.

BRAVO............ same point i have been saying. I compare it to the home loan issue, familys getting a home loan and not understanding the terms and now loosing their homes and wanting the government to bail them out. this whole thing about STRIKING or VACATION needs to be changed to EDUCATION.

I am a mother of three, my husband was a trucker and my father-in-law is still a trucker. I am so very proud of you guys that are taking a stand against the outrageous gas prices. There are more people supporting your courage than you know. I truely believe that trucker's are the backbone that keeps everything running and your the key to stoping the raising prices. I read in the news paper that one driver thought that the strike would not work. I have to strongly disagree due to the fact that a small strike recieved so much news. I would willingly take off of work to march with you guys in any protest that you plan. I have not met anyone who would not do the same. We "everyone I know" have been saying for months that you guys "trucker's" are the key to kicking this off.

    Many thank's

I am an O/O and I agree fuel is tooooo high; however, I have adjusted my rates over the last few months to moe than make up for it. I left this morning undecided whether I was gonna work this morning or strike, but the first 3 trucks I saw were bull haulers. I thought they were the ones behind all of this???? There were more trucks on the road today than yesterday. I have never used a broker and hope I never have to. If everyone would stop hauling cheap freight, it would have to start paying more. Instead of everyone getting together to strike, we should all get together and raise our rates.
