Big Cat, I've been with Blair for 2 years in May. I run out of the Columbus Ms office and pull out of the Severstal Mill in Columbus. I can tell you that with my experience with them there have been no surprises. Everything we (a friend and I leased on at the same time) were told when we talked to them at the beginning, has been exactly as we were told before we leased on. Everything so far has been positive. What office will you be running out of?
The only thing I can think of to tell you is that our CSA score had gotten away from where Blair wanted it to be and they were making us get tractor and trailer annually inspected once a month. That was a little aggravating but it was at there expense. They have since dropped that back to every 2 1/2 months as long as you havn't gotten any violations in any roadside inspections.
Thats all I can think of to tell you. If you have any more questions feel free to ask or even send me a pm and I'll try my best to answer.BlissFamilyTrucking, Shermanator and TheBigCat Thank this. -
Thanks for the reply. I live in Augusta, Ga so im guessing maybe the Birmingham office. It seems like they run a pretty concentrated region. Where all do they run? Is it from a mill to a customer and back? I'm currently with FTI on their nucor fleet.
What is the pay like? Can I bring my truck over? My brother is looking at a lease purchase from them. Do the L/P guys do ok over there? From my initial research of Blair, the drivers seem to be doing good and making plenty of money -
Not a lot I can tell you on most of those questions. I mainly run short haul stuff out of the mill in Columbus. About 99% coils to the customer and empty back to grab another load. Pay is 70% pulling their trailer and 77% with your own. I've been really satisfied so far. I'm really never around the drivers that are not out of the Columbus office so can't help you much there. I talked with Meghan, the recruiter in Birminham, before I leased on and she was straight up and honest with the questions I had.
TheBigCat Thanks this. -
Thanks bro. Will definitely give her a call tomorrow.

I am looking to sign on to Blair. I've been driving as a company driver for 16 years and ready to take the plunged. I guess I'm tired of being told when I can come home and how long I can stay. I know all the responsibilities that goes into being a O/O, and with my management/organizational training I had I'm ready for the challenge. I have to ask tho, to those who are now with them, or other wise, those with the knowledge. Should I lease their truck and trailer or buy my own first. I thought I would try leasing one of their trucks first for the 90 days before I make the decision. I like to think I would buy my truck as I get on board with them, but it might be wiser to leased on of theirs first. Any suggestions for me? As of now i am employed with a local company hauling eastern region, home every weekend. But I have a daughter in Houston I like to visit with a load to that area. I'm am on short term disability due to shoulder surgery, so I have time to search for that one special truck. Love to hear more about this company then what the recruiter will tell me. Thx.

I'm considering Blair. talked with a driver who's been with them 4 years. i forgot where he lives but he's out of the Birmingham term. He say's he's making great money, sometime take home 3 to 4 grand a week. He say's he out for 2 weeks and home for one week, his choice. I spoke to Meghan and she say's I can be home every weekend, if I choose too. Now I am wondering if I could better purchase my truck on my own instead of lease purchasing theirs, witch then again I was told it's a good deal doing that as well, payment will be between 400 to 450 per week. Plus they take good care of you for any break downs. Plus I desperately need to get to Houston from time to time to visit my daughter, I live in North Carolina. But now I'm struggling to make a decision for Mercer. Any info to help me?
