    A lot of them are testing their radios after modding or fixing them. Others, I suspect, are base stations just trying to get out.

    The problem is, the operator is too stupid to change it to another channel to do this, apparently, they only think they can test it on the channel they'll be on the most.

    But, this is going on for minutes at a time to be obnoxious it seems. Or the "Hellllo, helllllo, helllllooo." What happened to just asking for a radio check or saying your here at X location, then asking for a response?

    I've heard people do this and someone comes back and both parties are no where near me. Someone kept playing the air horn sound in a can, the kind they use at a basketball game or when someone does something amusing. They kept keying it up. I have to admit I couldn't stop laughing, I just think that sound is funny.

    Stuff like this happens after people spend a ton of money setting up a big station- then realize they have absolutely nothing worthwhile to say. However they need a way to justify the expense so they add noises, beeps and shout gibberish into the mic just to watch the meter swing over to the right.
