Yup! Just passed this Friday! On our range we had 3 curve back set ups. Two of them basically had you curve to make the first cone but then basically turned into a straight back. One was a slight curve, the next one tighter and the last one REALLY tight. The DMV one is like an in between of the second and last one but on thiers the last cone goes further in so your curving the entire time which threw me off the first time but got it on the second. Their curve is definitely where most people screw up. My first time I almost took the last cone out, second attempt I made sure I gave myself more wiggle room and made it. After I passed that we hit the road and the DMV tester was real good, asked questions you'd expect but real casual and low stress.

Wow the only curve back we practice is when you curve for the first cone then it's a straight back. Do you think I will get the dmv curve if I'm just practicing the curve on the first cone and then straight back?

Ya, you just gotta kick it over a little bit more around the third to make the forth cone. Don't forget after you pull up from your straight back thats when they'll move the cones for the curve, your allowed to get out and check out the setup that's the key seeing it in real life vs coming at you in your mirror helped. Plus you've got a 3ft buffer to play with. If you take your last cone and move it in a foot, you'll pretty much have the DMV's curve.

    Boyjr87 Thanks this.

Yup! Passed my dmv test with no problem, didn't hit a cone and knock everything out my first attempt, so I didn't even use a pull up, now I'm working with us xpress, but like I said I had to learn to back up on my own no thanks to shipper choice, what about you, are you on the road yet?

    Go-Go Thanks this.

Where did you do your road test and was the pre trip hard as shippers choice made it out to be? I attended shippers about a year and half ago but left do to a contract assignment.

I will affirm everything you said! They lured people in by want ads claiming that they needed a certain number of CDL drivers and that they would train! Well when you get there, its a freaking CDL school that you have to pay 5k for, so the lure was deceptive to begin with. When I went they had one working truck that everyone took turns on and as Boyjr87 mentioned, students who failed would come back to train on the same Truck as the students in class are using so that took away from our time. They spent more time trying to teach pre trip than actual backing or driving for that matter. I left there due to a work deployable work assignment but I did let VA know that the school is poorly run and is stealing their money.

The dmv was not hard at all, if you know your stuff you will have no problem passing, I was stressing that I wouldn't fail, but the dmv testers are very polite, and pretrip just study on that I got 102 out of 105 so that was pretty simple, if I did it any one can so good luck!
