For me, I am very grateful a company gave me an opportunity to become a truck driver with no money out of my pocket. I will put my year in to pay of my debt then assess my situation but as a company driver I like it here and the starting pay is great. Yes they have a lot of info on here to read about Prime, is well worth it if you chose Prime to read as much as you can before going to orientation. So Cal is very busy for Prime as far as I can tell, might be more for teams with fresh food that comes out of there but I am sure it would be no problem for a solo driver. Been there in training several times team driving and once took ice cream from Indianapolis to Los Angeles as a solo driver. You would have no problems being a Prime driver getting hometime from what I have seen and read but as with anything do your due diligence and you might chose another company to train with.

Thanks again albert l. I really like what I have read about them from other drivers and hope to hear something from them soon.

I would put in an application for both Schneider and Northern Refrigerated. Schneider has a terminal in So Cal while Northern Refrigerated has them in Turlock and Commerce. Also, try Watkins Shepard as they have a terminal in Sante Fe Springs. One other choice is May Trucking. Good luck.

It seems strange to me that most companies will hire someone with no permit or CDL and train them, but don't seem to like the idea that I received my CDL on my own. I think doing it on your own shows more potential yet most companies seem to want guys with absolutely no idea what a CDL is or they want guys that have graduated a CDL class in the last 30 days. What do you guys think?

Prime would be a good choice.

SRT ( Southern Refrigerated Transport) runs a lot of California and has a training program; might be worth a phone call since they run mostly Southern half of USA. You wouldn't be stuck with a trainer as long as with Prime.

That doesn't make any sense. I already have a CDL they could train me the same way they would train someone who did not have a CDL to begin with only they don't have to teach me a pre-trip and brake test or pass an exam for my permit and then a road test for my license. Just strictly how to drive their way.

    mje Thanks this.
