They can look at you any time without you knowing it, to see if you're texting or look sleepy. The driver that killed the trooper recently; when he hit the troopers car, the camera automatically took his picture and there he is looking at porn on his cell phone.

'They', meaning, Crete, claim they can't do see you anytime they want, but they have already lied to me about the drivecam, and from my years with Crete, I don't trust them, and also accept the possibility they have no idea what they are doing or are talking about.

I suspect the supplier, who actually monitors the videos, then makes some sort of evaluation of 'incidents', is able to control the drivecam remotely. I get the impression they are tweaking settings on the fly. Some days the #### thing goes off when you barely hit a tar strip on the road, then next day you can knock some fillings loose hooking up to a trailer or moving some sliders, and it doesn't go off. The few times it went off while braking to avoid a car running a redlight or something, the braking force was not even what I would consider close to a panic stop. Just normal stuff we have to do almost every day to avoid running over the idiots in the cars.
I've got nothing to hide in the way I drive. Give me a decent paycheck and treat me like a professional you claim we are, and I would not be so mad about this stupid thing, but, it's just one more reason Crete is one of the worst jobs I've had driving a truck, and they manage to make it worse, monthly.
What are they looking for with the video footage of the driver?
Whether you have your seatbelt on.
If you are using a cellphone.
If you are doing anything, some deskjockey considers 'not paying attention'.
If you have an accident they will look to see where you were looking at the time of the accident, and right before it.

The cam will also save video while you are parked, if something triggers it, like a truck backing into you.

Typical of Crete polices, like the 'no use of cell phones while driving....PERIOD, then the jerks call you on your cellphone while you are driving......(You stupid people spend lots of money on the satellite stuff.....how long does it take to see if the truck is moving at that time before you call on the cellphone?) this will be another medium for them to demonstrate how incompetent they are.

I wonder if there are states where these drivecams are not legal, or we have some rights?

I'm not against the cam recording what is happening in front of the truck. I run a dashcam, also, and if you get stuck with one of these trucks, I suggest you do also. I kind of doubt Crete is going to let you see the video they use to screw you.

The drive cams I have installed in truck have very minimal internal memory when a event happens the cam sends the 4 seconds before and after that event to the drive cam company they view it and then forward it to the trucking company depending on that companies policy if it don't show anything most companies don't want the video but on the cam it has vehicle speed so they should be able to figure out if moving tandems or driving down the road when you see the red lights flash on the cam it is sending in a clip to drive cam in the last company I worked for if you unhook the cam or cover it that is a automatic fired

The visors won't cover it. It's in the center of the windshield, at the top. I'm sure if you cover it up, Crete will let you know about it. Call it 'modifying the truck' or something like that.
I wonder if they ever thought that they may be increasing risky behavior? You know if you trigger the thing, you have to deal with the desk jockeys. Why not run that redlight instead of risking stopping quickly, and triggering it?

That's the policy, but I call my terminal while I'm driving. If I call Lincoln, I can't tell the switchboard my truck number or they hang up in me.

If you have 17,000 rules to follow, you might break a few here and there.
