Get a short haircut, and tell them you joined the Army and will be deployed overseas for several years. Because that will probably be how long it will take you to get back home.
Seriously, just tell them what you are going to do.

How to tell your parents you are going to be a truck driver.... well, if your a girl it is easy... just sit them down and the kitchen table with some coffee... and say..

Mom.. dad.. I need to tell you something.... take a long pause for effect.. then say.. I am gay...

Before the shock wears off.. say.. just kidding.. but, I am gonna be a truck driver..

Okay, sorry that wasnt right.. funny. But not right... and for the record, I am not anti gay... be true to yourself...

For me it is a career... I am still a rookie.. but every day I make a conscious effort to do the best I can in all aspects of beinv a truck driver... I take care of myself, my equipment and my responsibilities.... I do not follow too close, I am a safe driver and manage my time wisely so I dont have to sacrifice safety... I dont park and sit in the fuel island, I fuel, pull up, run in, run out and am off before the truck behind me is done fueling, I shower daily, I dont go to the bathroom in my truck, I do pre trips.. I get out no matter the weather and do a good pretrip, I do a post trip and when I stop during my trip I do a walk around... I made and make a conscious effort to run effeciently and effectively so that I earn good money... to me it is not fhe company I work for that dictates the ki d of driver I am... I do..

I thknk there are too many drivers out thede who are dissatisfied and think it ks because of the company they work for, the regulations, this or that... but I look at it like they are sitting at the table, knife and fork in hand waiting to be served... only.. it is a buffet. And you gotta go get what you want...

So you didn't have the skill it takes to be a driver. I understand that not everyone one does.

Beg to differ.....he made the intelligent choice in that he knew what his limits were. The rules/regulations weren't in alignment with those limits. Rather than be what he considered an un- safe driver( and In all truth he is the only one able to judge that ) he made the choice to quit driving. We all should hope that all drivers would make that choice when conditions warrant it to be made.

I agree with you 1000%. Call it skill, prowess or whatever you like. All I'm saying is some can and some can't. I don't work in customer service because I don't have the skills to deal with people. Nothing wrong with that I leave the job to the people who do.

I have a degree, and everybody in my family is an engineer or works in finance. Except me and my dad. So being the son of the family black sheep it wasn't really a big surprise when I rolled up in the truck on Christmas. I generally avoid my family they have always looked down on me after I decided I wanted to be a corpsman. But I'm #### proud of what I do and what I've done. I like driving trucks, the money's good for me. My family (mostly) can eat it.

I think you should tell your grandfather ... so he can smack his son upside the head for raising a spineless wuss.
