I have the same issue. I tried the squeezing, but seems the bumps still vibrate it loose eventually, may have to tape or velcro it.

    you squeeze the sides lightly
then i duct tape the cord to the dash to reduce vibration
hasnt come loose in 6 months

I have the good fortune to have the AC adapter and an inverter, do not have the problem with that connector, so it must be a problem with the 12 volt adapter. Would not be the first time something was manufactured to a spec that was just a little off. We shouldn't have to squeeze the plug for it to work as designed.

I have not had any issues with my 12v (Cig Lighter) Plug.
I have the cord zip tied to the Mount to reduce strain on connector.

Ok- possibly I'm a little confused. It would be helpful if you could post the roads that have these axle limits and in that regard, are you sure these are axle limits and not a GVWR limit? I know some states do post "bridge" weights on some roads but most states in my experience just post GVWR limits for restrictions. As you posted however, you limited the device to the shortest route scheme which means you are in effect forcing routing over roads that might otherwise be avoided for some restriction or another. The 720 is a very powerful and adaptable router due to the wide range of possible routing schemes but by the same coin, think of the routing features like a funnel- the more you force a more narrow scheme, the greater the give and take. At some point, one will force to routing not conducive to trucking.

You mentioned this is a RM issue and not a TND issue- well since both use exactly the map data and restrictions overlays, that isn't especially true. Also, it is very important to note that not every state has STAA marked roads or routes. That being the case, there is no way RM or it's providers can add the data into the map. Peruse the thread here, and you'll see this issue has popped up periodically. With there being millions of miles of US and State highways besides the Interstate system, keeping track of what is or isn't STAA qualified is a monumental task, especially when these especially when these roads and routes are not reported to anyone. Even simple village truck routes can be subject to the whim of the next village mayor. I live on the west side of Phoenix in Avondale and I run out of our Phoenix terminal (no-not Swift). So I am pretty familiar with getting around that area by both truck and car and let me say- there are zero signs marking streets and roads as STAA. There are- No Trucks Allowed- signs but those are not the same thing. I would not be surprised to find that while those restrictions for North Dakota might or not be on the restrictions overlay, the STAA status is probably not known.

There was an axle limit of 8t on sections of highways 28 & 5. Not a gross vehicle weight limit -- a per axle limit. It is very common to see tri-axle trailers up there, probably for this reason.

Shortest route shouldn't take restricted routes (and this particular route used roads designated as STAA in the RM atlas). It should choose the shortest legal option, even if that option takes longer to drive (country highways vs interstate). In this case the "fastest" route was 100-miles longer - an out of route distance most carriers would frown upon.

I don't blame RM for not being perfect, but I do report what I can so the next guy doesn't get screwed. This case is unusual -- a per axle limit -- and I'm not sure how they can address it from a technical perspective since the TND asks only for gross weight & # of axles. A 5-axle set of doubles would very likely be legal at 80,000lbs. A typical 5-axle setup for a tandem-axle 53' trailer would not.

the connector is the same size 12 or 110 volt
reducing strain by whatever method is the key
whether it should be like that or not is immaterial

The short route will, out of the other options, more likey to run over restricted roads because you are limiting it's options, especially if there are fewer road choices.
    However....
There is a report function on the device. Fill it out and the next time you sync, it'll go to RM customer service. Could be there is an issue here with the database. Just out of curiosity, are those routes listed as restricted in the mcra?
