Ouch... Said he hit it at Highway speeds that's 75 on the Kansas Turnpike... I'm guessing he fell asleep? Kind of wonder though he has a passenger inside I believe it said he was in the passengers seat? I guess going "highway speeds" straight into the toll lanes is there much a passenger could have done? Not Really?

    RIP Driver...

Hope the passenger makes it out of the hospital....

I don't like to stereotype, but looking at the names and knowing what I know, I'm not surprised at this. Maybe a team operation and it's still almost a safe bet to assume that both logs are completely falsified. If the facts are ever disclosed, you'll probably also learn their english reading skills are probably minimal. Flame me, I don't care but somebody has got to shed some light on this issue and be honest about it because I have to run these same roads with them.

RIP driver and I hope the other one recovers.

There's a time and place for everything. Someone, a man, a human being died in the course of working. Yes he probably fell asleep but that has happened with any nationality. If something was wrong then the DOT will be all over it.

    Don't they have rumble strips?

Something that caught my eye. What is that in the top bunk area? It almost looks like a man lying there with shades on?

Yes, maybe the "DOT and FMCSA will be all over it", problem is by the time the official findings are released, it's all forgotten about and we all continue to live in our fantasy world that only American truckers are dangerous, "immigrant truckers are simply trying to survive and make a living and crap happens, so let's let this one go and hope for the best moving forward, and remain politically correct".

so what do you say when two "americans" get killed sleeping while driving and their logs are not correct?

    durn merkans?

i dont know why at TTR every story has to either attack some nationality or speaking english, as if he hit the tollbooth because he couldnt read the sign "toll ahead"

this gringo xenophobic jingoism is purely nauseating

While I understand this sentiment, I also understand the frustration many of us have with some "non-merkan" drivers. More and more, we see drivers seemingly oblivious to signage and potential changes in road conditions and traffic controls.

It is hardly scientific, but if one to research truck accidents resulting in at least one fatality over the last few years, you might see a trend. I'm sorry, but many of them do not come from a culture that values or does much to ensure safe operation.

Could this his have been something else? Of course. I guess we will just have to wait for the facts to emerge, and say our mea culpas then.

Not surprised at all since those booths only rely on a speed limit sign to prevent people from hitting those things directly on the interstate. If memory serves me correctly the booths in VA have large rumple strips in the road before you approach but even so if the brakes dont work on your truck this will happen.

Every end of a freeway or approach to a toll barrier should have rumble strips. If he did as it appears, fallen asleep, hopefully that would've woken him up. Or even if he wasn't asleep but daydreaming, it would've snapped him out of the daze.
