They did, but I signed up for mine in 2011 I think, two year contract ended in 2013, and I can just continue on the plan that I am on. If they force me off of it, I will most likely change to someone else.

I don't know who's worse.... The government or the cell phone companies. What a racket! But ya, Verizon will nickel and dime you to the poor house. I changed to sprint from Verizon 4 years ago and have been very happy since then.

I have unlimited data through Verizon and also mobile hotspot so I have Netflix on my phone, my kindle, my laptop, and my Xbox. If I get a smart TV I'll probably have it there too.

I surmise when you stream via Verizon or Netflix on the road you are getting SD and not HD. It might look like HD on one of those tablets but there's no way they can give you decent HD reproduction playback, with the speeds they are giving you. I tried Netflix streaming when it first came out and I thought it was rubbish.
Too much motion blur and the audio side was poor. Streaming is certainly not for the purist. Video has been a hobby of mine since the late 70s. I had a VCR before the VHS/Betamax era came about. It was a bit primitive but it worked. Now we have streaming which is no where near where it needs to be, especially if you do it on the road. In the early days we used VUDU at home and it was excellent. Their streaming service was top class and we had a great experience for about 12 mths.
But then problems emerged in the form of buffering. It became a huge problem. I had constant arguments with their tech dept because I knew exactly what the problem was but they said it was my equipment. Their lies didn't work with me. I've never used them since.
If you are willing to accept poor quality, in my eyes, then go for streaming on the road, but to me, its not good enough. You need a tremendous amount of bandwidth and the correct speed to make it work in HD. Not to mention the audio side of things which in this day and age comes in 5.1 formats. SD and stereo sound is old hat.
I have a verizon Jetpack with 8gigs. Thats no where near enough of data per month in order to watch movies. At home, we get about 135Gigs with a speed of 30 mbps from our internet provider. You need that kind of speed to compensate for the fluctuations of streaming speeds through the modem and router. But the buffering problems just drives me crazy to such a point I will just pass and stick with bluray DVD.
As long as the companies don't address the problems that are inherent in the streaming technology, then DVD will never go away anytime soon. The costs associated with the data plans are too high for my taste and you don't even get the best playback. If anything its substandard. But YMMV.

I have the Galaxy 4 with Sprint, pay $75/mo for unlimited everything + ins. Hot spot on the phone and Netflix on the laptop connected to the TV works for me.
Tweaked the phone to bypass paying for the hot spot feature. Use around 100 gigs a month from Web browsing, downloads and tethering, but unless your connection is strong streaming Netflix will be a pain.
I applaud Sprint for truly unlimited and not doing stupid #### like slowing down Internet speed (throttling) or outrageous data plan prices.

    Go Sprint!

I dont have a netflix acct but I watch Youtube quite a bit.

I've been using Millenicom for the last 5 years. Most of that time they gave me a Sprint modem and provided Sprint service. I thought it wasn't too bad. Then Sprint refused to renew their contract with Millenicom so MC sent me a Verizon JetPack. Total night and day between Sprint and VZW. I have no problem streaming anything at speed from VZW where I always had Sprint issues. 1xrtt sigs, low signal, limited 4g markets, throttling from sprint (contrary to popular belief, sprint DOES throttle!).

I've had VZW since November and I've had no speed issues or anything from VZW or Millenicom. Justa bout everywhere I go, I get a 4g signal and the speed is almost as good as my cable modem at home. I dont consume too much bandwidth so they havent throttled me at any point. I pay $69 a month for 30 gigs through MC. While its not Unlimited like Sprint was, I find the service much more dependable and stable.

Amen to that! I have the dish anywhere feature, but it requires internet at home and some form on the road. I currently have two jet packs thru verizon, and I, also have had moderate to no success streaming off trucks top wifi. My next move will be to get a self contained system that will run on my dish package.

I just did a speed test on my Verizon phone tethered to my laptop. 10.52 Mbps. That is over three times as fast we my DSL at home. HD streaming is not a problem. Data usage could be.

FYI millinicom is raising the monthly rate to $89 and lowering the data allowance to 20 gig/month effective May 1, 2014. This will affect current and new customers. Yes, it sucks but still will have a hard time finding anything better.

But yes, make sure you lower the vid resolution stream in Netflix to the lower SD mode
