Its something I've been thinking about lately and I don't want to bring it up to my driver manager just yet.
Any Swift drivers ever take a leave of absence from Swift and return?
For how long?
I guess my primary concern is having to go back on the road with another trainer. Obviously I would have to turn the truck in. I was thinking about taking anywhere from a month to two months off for some riding time in November possibly.
Im still deciding whether I want to come back to Swift to continue having some consistency with one company or just make a clean break and maybe line something up with another company before I go. The most important thing is I want to have a job driving when I return whether it be with Swift or another company. I don't want to company jump much but if Swift makes me start all over again with the starting CPM rate and going with another trainer for 4-5 weeks then maybe I'll look elsewhere before I go. I'm just not sure at this point.
Any info would be appreciated.
Leave of absence from Swift. Anyone ever do this?

Getting a leave of absence with a company usually isn't a big deal. most of the bigger companies will re-enstate you even if you quits for a curtain period. Try asking them LOL.

If you don't have much exp solo before taking an LOA then you will have to go out with a trainer no matter what company you go with.

I am with Pattj, get a good 1yr solo in and then you wont need to deal with going out with a trainer AGAIN....Good Luck Friend !

I'm 13 months solo now and I'll be 1 yr 9 months solo by the time of the LOA.

I'll tell them eventually but not right now. Just curious who has had experience with taking a couple of months off and returning.

Don't sweat it,with over a yr in you won't have to go with a trainer.

I talked to another flatbed driver who took 3 months off. Had to go through orientation again and take the road test. Also had to fight to get his pay back to where it was before he took a leave. He did everything right, filled out the form, got it approved... He didn't just quit and come back.

So why should it be different if you take a leave for 3 months, quit and come back after 3 months of not driving, or get your CDL and don't get a job for 3 months?
If you spend that much time away from driving there will be certain conditions to get back in.
Maybe it is the requirements of insurance companies, or maybe it is simply a matter of safety.
Not driving a big truck and trailer for that long will leave you very rusty in many areas. -
True but I'm curious what the cutoff will be as far as time goes. One month? Two weeks? 2 months?
