That sounds pretty good, I think Sage has a school in Muncie. I hope to hear more about this company. My daughter lives in Kokomo, In. And I have an airplane hangared there so the location would be great for me.
i think Sage was like $4900 give or take.
Did someone say they have Volvo trucks with auto transmissions ?

Do you already have experience/cdl or in the same boat as i am by starting a new career? -
-
I am 60 now and would like to drive for a few years before I retire, I have worked in aviation for many years and ready for a change.
2015 Freightliner would make a nice truck for me haha ! -
when will you be back around the area? -
You said you heard rookies are paid pretty good, do you know how much CPM or how long the training is and pay for training. -
I too hear mostly all good stuff about them, but most of these posts are old. I hope some of the current drivers will chime in and give us as much insight to the company as possible, good, bad and ugly. Their website makes it sound like you want to retire there. It seems you can be out as long as you want, or home 2-3 times a week and still make a decent living either way ? What are the annual salaries for OTR and those home more often ??
Please keep the info. coming. Good luck and hope to meet up with you all at Carter !! -
I keep hoping also that someone from Carter will notice this on here and give some more info. -
Hey everyone! Hope this is in the right category.
I am hoping to get into trucking, specifically with a certain company.
My step brother works at Carter Express in Anderson, Indiana. He was telling me all about Carter Express and it sounded like a good fit for me as I was trying to find a place to start my career in trucking. I gave them a call, spoke with Kelli and she informed me that I must be an Indiana resident (I lived in Jacksonville, Florida at the time) and must have my CDL-Permit. Once I have that, we can proceed with a formal interview, etc. If that goes well, then background check, drug screen and so on.
If the company decides to hire me, they pay for me to go to school at Sage via Ivy Tech. From what I've read, this school has higher ratings than most of the others from previous students. I think the schooling is 3 - 5 weeks and I will not get paid during that time. Once school starts, I have been hired by Carter Express and agree to work for them for a year since they are paying for the tuition. PLUS, I don't have to pay it back. As soon as the education is completed and I have my CDL, I go in a truck with a trainer. From talking to different drivers I've heard this is anywhere from 3 days to 3 weeks so I'm not sure what is accurate. During the time with the trainer you are paid, but a minimum amount. Then you get your own truck and begin working the boards!
I obtained my CDL Permit on Saturday, submitted my physical to DOT, have proof of residency and will be calling Carter this morning hoping to proceed. I'll keep everyone posted in this thread until I'm hired and then I will start a new one.
I'm really excited about this new adventure, but especially with Carter. I'm impressed with what I've heard - even from drivers that have been fired. -
What is the starting pay at Carter?
