    The fun wears off eventually.
This is the issue. With the quality of a lot of drivers it is better when they have less control and the machine has more.

Another diff between a 10,13,and 18 is the pulling power... a 10 spd is gonna max out around 75 mph at around 2300-2400 rpm's which is not good for a motor because the engine will run hotter along with the injectors.. could cause permanent damage... and if all i ever hauled was box van freight i would go for a 10 spd.. perfect for the job... but i like hauling OS equipment and i would prefer an 18 speed u get a lot more play room and more hp if you need it... my 2 cents..

I currently work at US Xpress, we drive a mix of 10 speeds and auto-shifts (not automatics, there is a difference.) The company has recently confirmed that they're going to phase out the manuals in favor of auto-shifts and the new automatics. They say fleet fuel economy, lower maintenence cost, purchase cost and safety to be factors. The new trucks are huge improvements over the older autos. Hope this helps.

UsXpress is phasing back to auto-shift and the new autos, confirmed this month. Tyson and Trans-am both also run all auto fleets. Not sure about any others. I've drfiven 10 speed, 13 speed and auto-shift. Prefer auto shift, less work for me and they do a fine job, IMHO. My 2 cents.

I love this auto I have. Makes my day just that much more easier. I can focus on the traffic more now rather then worrying about what gear I'm in.

So a 10 speed with a .73 OD ratio will turn more RPMs at speed than an 18 speed with a .73 OD, all other things being equal?
