OK, first off am licensed in Georgia. I got my cdl a in February 2012 and got my medical card in December 2011. It was a two year. But my cdl was cancelled in September 2013 due to a failure to submit a medical card. It was cancelled without my knowledge for three months. I submitted the new one but now my mvr shows that withdraw. Will this hurt me when I try and go to a new company? Basically it was the States fault since I had to let them copy my card from December 2011 in order to even get my cdl. It still had three months left.

It is really your own fault.

This has been on the news, in the magazines, on the forum for almost 3 years.

But the company is also at fault too.

Because they have been making the change to this being submitted for the last 3 years. I have had to self certify twice now. My last physical was good till September last year, but I went and did it a month early because of the requirement.

So how often do I have to do this and will it hurt me employment wise?

At least 30 days before the medical card expires each time.

And dont get so attached to yourmedical card.. Many companies will have youtake a physical and geta new card in orientation.

So, it is so much when it is good till.. just make sure you always have a current one that is not exxpired ...

Does the DMV send you a letter telling you that you need to give them a copy of your med card. When I was at Hills, the guy that lead the orientation said he was going to register it with my DMV but never got ahold of the dmv to find out.

I would contact DMV in Atlanta, State Patrol Headquarters. That is obviously a state error so they should remove the disqualification. Do you still have the card you used to get your cdl? If so, Take it to them and show it to them. You are right about having to have a medical card to get your cdl. I was born and raised in Ga. I grandfathered into the program in 1990 but still had to have a valid medical card to get my license. You need to find the card you used to get your license and get that disqualification removed.

If you don't still have the old card, go to the place you got it from and they will probably have a copy of your long form physical of dec 2011. That will work as long as it has the dates on it. That card did not expire until Dec 2013 so they could not legally disqualify you in Sept 2013. I used the medical card I already had when I grandfathered in in 90- I didn't have to get another medical card until that one expired.
