Friday 3/28/14 Picked up at Protec in leipsic ohio. Got a 41210 lb coil loaded shotgun headed for Precision Strip in Talladega Alabama for a 1900 Delivery on 3/31/14. This is not one of my favorite places or the favorite time to deliver. The entire Monday is shot, but the load did get me home on Friday so I try to look at the positive.
Sunday 3/30/14 Left the house and drove down to Rising Fawn Georgia and spent the night at the Pilot. It is a nice one as it has large parking spots and a nice tv room upstairs.
Monday 3/31/14. Spent most of the day just relaxing at the pilot and left in time for me to arrive in Talladega at around 7 pm. You can check in an hour early. During the day, I received a preplan to pick up on Tuesday in Opelika Alabama at West Fraser getting a load of lumber going to Houston Texas.
It took until after 10:30 before I was mt and was able to park right there and spend the night.
4/1/14 Headed on down to Opelika Alabama and arrived there around 0730. Got right in and sent to the back to get a load of rough lumber that did not need to be tarped. I was in and out of there in less than an hour which was very nice.
Drove until I got to the rest area just past the swamp before you get into Texas. It was really neat seeing all of it again. It had been a while since I had been down that way.
4/2/14 During my pre trip I found a light out on the right rear of my trailer. So I stopped at three truck stops before I could find the right bulb. I was glad that I did, because as I was coming into Texas, they were running all of the trucks through the inspection area and looking for things. I was good to go.
Got hung up in rush hour traffic in houston. Spent about 45 minutes in bumper to bumper but got through it. Got to the receiver only to find out that my Work assignment was incorrect and I like a dummy, did not catch it. My work assignment said Baker Chemicals and the BOL said Baker Concrete. Both in Houston...only 17 miles away. The guys at the chemical place had a puzzled look on thei faces when I pulled in with a flat bed full of lumber. lol
Made my delivery and then got a load picking up in Corrigan Texas going to St Louis Mo at the Home Depot center.
When I got to the shipper, I did not have the correct number. So my fm had to get with the csr and get it. Took about 30 minutes or less and they had it.
Got a load of plywood...12 bundles, strapped, tarped and gone...
I made it up to some small truck stop, and spent the night. They had a churches chicken so I induldged myself...
4/3/14 Headed out at around 0400 and stopped in at the NLR yard. Got my truck and trailer washed, and then took a much deserved and appreciated shower. I also cashed in myh $40 at the company store for my 4 years at Maverick. Got me 4 replacement t shirts.
I made it to the Madison Yard with 6 minutes left on my clock. On the way I had a preplan which was Picking up at Trinity Mfg in St Charles Mo, going To Wilmington NC.
4/4/14 Arrived at Home Depot at 0900 for my 1000 appointment. A very nice truck driver helped my fold my tarps which I appreciated. He did not work for Maverick. By 1100 I was unloaded and on my way to St Charles Mo. When I got there, there was a very long line all the way across the street.
It took over 3 hours to get to the point where they were going to load me. I was picking up 7 50 foot pieces of pipe which were supposed to weigh 48,000 lbs.
As I was leaving, I saw another truck that had already loaded, coming back in. He said he was heavy on his trailer axles and he was going to have them move the load up. He did not have the exact same load as me, but it got me concerned.
Did my laundry at the Madison yard and made a run up to Walmart to get my weeks food. It is very nice to have a facility like that with a vehicle that you can use.
I did the math, and this load would be 220 miles out of route for me to go home, so I was not even going to ask....just one of those things from time to time.
4/5/14 Left about 0600. Tried to sleep in but just could not do it, so I drove down to the pilot and weighed my truck and trailer. Everything was fine, but at least now I did not have to worry.
I drove to Knoxville and stayed at the flying j. Got to watch the two final four games which were really good.
4/6/14 Took off about 0800 and drove down to about 25 miles of Wilmington NC on Route 74/76.
Stayed at the the BP there ...something Pit Stop. They had a nice lot.
4/7/14. I left at about 0700 so I could get to the job site at about 0730. It said they start receiving at 0800. On the way I saw one of the most beautiful sites I could imagine....The Battle Ship USS North Carolina. I did not get a good look going in, but a great view from the bridge coming out. I know my pulse quickened...I was thrilled!
Made my delivery and then got a load right away to pick up at Flake Board in Bennetsville Sc going to Thompsontown PA.
Had to sit about an hour before I got called in to load and it probably took them close to another hour to load me and then with tarping...ect call it 2.75 in and out.
I made it up to Raphine PA and the Petro and rolled in there with about 7 minutes. This back parking lot is huge, and they even have a shuttle.
I broke one of my cardinal rules, which is do not nose into a parking space at night. The reason I did was because there was a large turn space back there that you are not supposed to park in. So I nosed in next to another truck. As soon as I did it, I wondered if I had made a mistake.
4/8/14 When I awoke, I looked out my mirror to see a truck very close behind me. 4 trucks parked where they were not supposed to and I did not have room to back out.
Fortunately the truck to my right left and I was able to get out with just a bit of a delay.
Learned my lesson.
Made my delivery in Thompsontown Pa and on the way got a preplan to pick up at Dow Chemical in Pennsauyken NJ going to Sims Nc.
Since I am on recap and only had 3.5 hrs coming back today...they made my pick up for tomorrow morning at 10:30. Hopefully I will only catch the tail end of the rush hour traffic around Philly.
I stopped at a service plaza on I 76 and have 65 miles to go in the morning.
I am picking up styrofoam. I have picked up here once before. It is a very tall light load that has to be tarped. They have a nice ladder system and safety harness there so it should not be a problem.
I should get very close to the receiver tomorrow evening and then go done on Thursday at 0700.
PFP update. About half way through this quarter, I was only at .01 and I was very frustrated. VEry cold weather, out of route to get around bad roads ect.
I decided to get back to basics and do everything I could to capture my bonus. It is not official yet, but right now I am sitting at 98 points which is a .06 bonus....so it can be done.
Hope everyone has a safe week!
ps...i got to meet andrew at Madison.sarge26044 Thanks this. -

Arrived at Dow chemical at 0945 for a 1030 appointment...left at 1800.
Drove 110 miles today. Another mav truck going to same place got 1 bundle...400 lbs.
I got 5000 and the most irregular load you ever saw. They should have evened them both out...but oh well...made some detention. -
I have been reading this thread for months. I really enjoyed all the information that has been put out on here. Especially Jim's day by day logs he posted. All of this combined has helped me make the decision to join Maverick. I have applied and the only thing that is needed to get my orientation date is my DD214 from the Army. I will receive that next month when I finally retire from the Army. Ready to start the next chapter in my life. Been a while since I drove a big truck but can't wait to get on the road again.
Once again, thank you everyone and I will see you down the road.sarge26044, JimTheHut, jxu417 and 1 other person Thank this. -
That's exactly how I chose maverick. ..this thread told it like it is. I'm six months in and love it
