No sir. Cars and truckers feel that you have to let them on. If you can get over that's what you want to do. But you just have to roll on. People down here in GA drive stupid, I had one cut me off and ran into the back of a car today.

OP, You are OK. That being said...You cannot assume the motorist merging on the freeway, or anywhere for that matter knows the traffic laws and how to apply them or even drive. The average person out there driving the personal vehicle has no clue. So to make them "eat some dirt" on the shoulder, well, they probably cannot handle the vehicle once it goes off pavement. I guess what I an trying to say is that they probably do not have the driving skills to get themselves out of the situation that they just caused. So as the professional, you need to do the right thing all the time. No matter how stupid they are.

You'll get the feel of it. There's a rhythm to every traffic flow. You'll get the feel of it in no time. No harm no foul. It's all good. Do What'cha can when you can and you are so inclined to do so. Maintain what you got when you can't or don't want to. It's part of the art. Gotta paint it and play it your way. You done good.

I had one young lady recently try to merge while looking at her smart phone. I had already slowed to let cars in front of her on, she had plenty of time but was pre occupied. Once she realized that I was right next to her and she was running out of lane she panicked and slammed on her brakes, thankfully she was ok. But it is stunning the amount of people who fail to signal their intentions and seem to be oblivious to the fact that they have to worry about merging into traffic.

If you have traffic in the left lane preventing you from moving over you have no choice but to hold your lane. Don't second guess this. Better to make the merging traffic do what they're supposed to do and yield, rather than run over top of a car trying to be polite to ramp traffic.

Merging traffic must yeild, but I watch that land and adjust my speed as if I merging with them. That is only if I cannot move over. Most times when I cannot get over, they adjust thier speed and I don't have to, but when traffic is heavier and they are coming down closer to my front, I will slow down. It is only a courtesy, not a obligation, but I do have an appointment to make so I am not just going to let someone alse hit me if I can avoid it. Its just common sense.

They guy that flipped him of is a rude #######. I guess some think that it is our obligation to let them in.

Try driving in the Northeast all the time. I drive in the greater Boston area quite often. People here do not signal and when they are merging onto the highway YOU are expected to get the heck out of their way. People will get in front of you by just creeping over the dotted line. No signal. No space. I had 8 cars do this to me the other day. 2 of those cars moved over so close to me, that I could not see their signal on the back of their vehicles. Then they do the stupidest thing possible. Nail the brakes. If I blast the air horn at them, the one finger salute is sent my way. 4 wheelers do not realize that we need a whole lot more room to slow down.

Kind of hard to ticket for something that most do not even know to use themselves.

I disagree. If one doesn't know to use a signal or know not to follow to close they should get a ticket. Especially 18 wheelers. I deal with other truckers on my ### daily. It gets old.
