As far as numbers go Mr Company Driver, his sound very far off what is the "norm" even in open deck trucking. Thus my questions about some evidence, which did not come due to him not having a 1099 to show etc. So maybe do some more reading, and stop the childish name calling before knowing the facts?
As far as numbers go, I have shown mine in prior threads plenty of times. I have not put in enough numbers for earnings to be accurate this year so far, but my expenses are $1.09 YTD. Thus the various comments about it not making sense. Get it yet? Or do you need me to dumb it down some more?
Here are my last 3 yrs earnings though, and the miles driven both loaded, empty, and me using the truck for personal use with my car trailer behind it on the receiver hitch I have, just to play fair...
2013 $212,011 on 101k miles
2012 $234,942 on 104k miles
2011 $184,986 on 90k miles
My tax bracket went up to the next level, if that tells you anything about my net, over the past few years
As I said, proof is in the pudding.
My average load pays over $3 a mile, and a lot over $4 a mile, and I do plenty of deadheading around instead of pulling cheap junk. Fuel has been between .67 a mile, and .80 a mile, depending on the weight I am pulling.
Need some more numbers? Or maybe I can break it down into some mileage pay like what you get, so you can understand it better?
Look through the various threads, and come to your own conclusions about what is the "norm", and what is out of this world. Then maybe you will have the faintest idea on what you are talking about.
Idiotic replies like yours are the reason I try to stick to one part of this excellent site, and not venture into the "wannabe" sections too often. I ask for proof, others that have the experience say it doesn't look right, and then you come on board and make a frail attempt to act like you know something. By all means, go and think you will NET $150k a year, then we can all watch as you lose your rear when it doesn't pan out and the repo man comes knocking...SL3406 Thanks this. -
Thanks for the Frail attempt to give me #'s that dont tell me anything but your fuel that u consume per mile.Tell me something else that Most wannabes like to know from an O/O... How much is your Truck payment or is it paid for.Do you lease a Trailer or own it?? What do you put back per mile on Insurance/Permits,Maintenance,Truck payment and On and On and On.. Details to your personal trials will help with ALL OF US understanding this business. We didnt ask for Contracts or Contact information

I know a few O/O's out here and my Personal game plan sounds crazy to them. How bout outright purchase or Tractor and trailer and they start losing their Minds like that is unheard of and cant be Done. After that Nobody want to talk to a Driver that is willing to Totally finance himself and have money set aside for Fuel and Breakdown to start out with($25,000) Totally debt free company starting out
-
I dont "put aside" money for anything, I seem to earn enough to pay for things as needed.
This truck is financed, got a killer deal on it. $1501 PM. Last one was paid for for @2yrs.
Trailer is the company I am leased to. No charge. I haul bigger trailers, so being flexible is more important than most operations. Anything from a 3 axle stretch RGN, 3 axle RGN, combine trailer, blade trailer, and so on.
Insurance is a percentage of the value of the truck, so that varies. 2.5% IIRC.
Fuel, I posted if you care to read it again, as I guess you had your defensive head on at the first reading.
Truck is brand new and under full factory warranty, so maintenance is next to nothing at the moment.
I am plated at 117k lbs, and dont haul box freight, so my numbers are next to meaningless for most in here. If you want to haul bigger stuff, then fair enough, but for normal freight, means nothing.
As far as "your personal game plan", I know nothing of it, so wont comment either way. If you can start up debt free, go for it. If you need finance, go for it. Both can work or fail. $25k, on your own authority, is not enough. We are currently owed $86,500 for one job, if that gives you an idea...
Not sure where you get the "frail attempt" from, I posted actual numbers, so lost me there. Defensive head on again I guess?
Either way, I will stick to the good side of the forum for a while.Redman30 Thanks this. -

my last truck i spent $3,800 doing the bull gear before that was turbo EGR valve and cooler and spring bushings ran me $18,k last year alone -
Engine Overhaul: Took out a loan for the overhaul instead of using my own money (4.25% $605/mo for two years)
Trailer: $57,450 purchase price, $800/mo payment for 7 years, financed at just under 5%)
Insurance is $673/mo for $1m liability and $150k cargo on a $25k truck and $57k trailer.
I set aside $650/wk for repairs (including the overhaul payment) and $450/wk for insurance, taxes, trailer payment, plates, 2290, IFTA, HUT, KYU, and NM WDP. For the 44 or so weeks I drive, that's almost $20k for taxes, fees, permits, plates, 2290, etc. For repairs, for truck and trailer, is about $28k a year. I only set money aside for weeks I've driven. Already took three weeks off this year. And I will use up most of that repair money. That money isn't just for repairs, it's for future repairs and/or replacement.
These are the repairs I've had this year:
$900 (brake chamber and drive tire)
$500 (two wheel seals, no brakes)
$1100 (V-Pod and coolant leak)
$500 (replaced coolant reservoir)
$400 (coolant leak at o-ring from back of air compressor)
$500 (right steer tire replaced)
$400 (PM/oil)
$50 (Truck inspection)
$400 (PM/oil/plus air filter)
$350 (new reefer chute)
$120 (SV4 replaced on reefer)
$200 (reefer oil change service)
$100 (wiring issue on truck, headlight went out, was a cut wire under the truck in the wiring harness)
I've had the truck into a shop FOUR times this year for a coolant leak. It was like playing whack-a-mole. Fix it one place, it shows up another. Was #### irritating. That's $5520 roughly PLUS four months of payments for the overhaul (another $2400). From the 10 weeks I've driven, that's only $6500 for repairs, but I've spent $7920 so far. But, I also have profited $28k so far this year. So, dipping into my personal cash is not an issue to me (that's $2800/week for the 10 weeks out for those scoring at home). Hopefully with the water leak(s) are apparently done, I'm not going to be plugging money into the truck as frequently. Going through gallons of coolant is not fun. Especially when just a week or so earlier you had the truck in the shop for a different water leak.Redman30 Thanks this. -
the funny thing is is gets wilder with every post. -
Thanks A lot Sly Fox for All those details. This helps out a lot just to show where and how you had to Spend your Money. Will go a long way in showing everyone who doesn't own a truck what you have to go through.Tells me more than if you said you made $150,000-$225,000 last year
