    Hello all,

My fiance and I have been in CDL school and thanks to this site have been researching alot of companies to start off with. I like Schneider alot, but the only issue I have is no APU or inverters allowed. How do you guys keep cool in the summertime? How can you have a refrigerator or any electronics without a power inverter? Any help would be great! If we are out on the road more than we are home I want to make sure we are comfortable while away from home!

Our company trucks have the 12 volt power adaptors (think cigarette lighter). I have a mobile power inverter that plugs into the 12 volt power adaptor and it works fine for plugging in my laptop, etc. As for staying cool in the summertime I plan on getting a small battery powered fan.

12 volt fans in the summer along with window screens. You can have a 180 watt inverter. As for a fridge use a 12 volt thermo-electric cooler. They work fine for keeping things cold, although not frozen. For other electronics think 12 volt everything. If you guys are going to team you will not sit all that much so staying cool while travelling is easy the main engine is running so you will have A/C. SNI does have a idle standard and as long as you are under the threshold you will earn your bonus. Lots of people forgo the bonus in the summer and idle to keep cool.

The only problem with that is when the truck won't idle for long periods of time above or below certain temperatures.

High idle the truck. It shouldn't shut off if it's on high idle. Around 800-900 should do it.

I've heard company drivers complaining that they can't idle because of the ambient temp sensor shutting off truck. Just glad I have my own truck with an APU.

If that's true that's a bunch of crap. What's comfortable to one person might not be for the next. I'd be finding that sensor and disconnecting that thing in a hurry.

That is true. The truck I had before I went on medical leave did that.

Wow that amazes me that a company can dictate what a comfortable temperature is for someone else.
