So, as a new driver, I'm finding one of my biggest challenges is shutting down for the night and finding a place to park my truck. It seems like Schneider sends me a load assignment that begins around 4pm, so when I get 8~11 hours in, it's around 1am.... and there's no place to park. Grrr... Just like the govt to enact strict HOS rules and not provide adequate resources for drivers to get off the road.

Any tips? I know, get in a truck stop before 9pm, but that's not much help when the assignment is on a tight schedule (and so far, they always are). I occasionally see a rig parked on the side of an on/off ramp, is that allowed? I parked in a Wal-mart one night--I called ahead and was given permission. After squeezing into a space, I noticed there were numerous "SEMI PARKING NOT ALLOWED" everywhere :biggrin_2555: Well, I was out of minutes, tired, and figured I'd would fight it out in the morning. Just my luck, that was the least of my problems--I woke up 4 hours later at 6AM and found my truck surrounded by 4-wheelers!

Now that I've got navigation down pretty well, parking is my next big issue.

Has been a problem for years for guys who like to/have to run late into the night. Sometimes you can park at receivers or close by in industrial parks. I feel for ya. I was always running my own schedule and liked to start early early and shut down early so never had as much problems.

Expect parking to be an issue until the day you get your gold watch.

It's a known problem, you'll learn tricks and gain knowledge about how to handle this situation over the next...30-40 years assuming you keep with driving, but I wouldn't get my hopes up with expecting any change. There's a few online, government sponsored questionnaires about parking right now. You'd be kidding yourself if you think those are gonna help.

Rest areas, metro parking and truck stops that are designed for 53' trailers are what is really needed, here. And you'll get none of it. :yes2557:

Really, you gotta do what you can to get your schedule more normal, like starting your clock at 6AM. That way you'll find parking. Complain to your FM about the situation...

Even Rest Area parking is hard to find that time of night. You gotta either be a night runner and run until 5AM every night before you shut down (the truck stops start to declutter around this time) or run normal day hours. Finishing up at 1AM every night is insanity... you'll be screwed unless you can sleep at consignees.

What do you mean, your spot? Are you saying you would bother a driver because of the company he drives for?

At night, depending what part of the country you're at,you will always have trouble finding a parking spot some places after 5 pm and others once it the sun starts to set. Then come 7 am you'll start to find quite a few places to park. But the time u end your day.finding a spot can be like finding a needle in a hay stack.

even though that person wasnt really "Gay" it was just a Figure of Speech we called people that Pissed us off...(yes,I had my share of name calling too)

Its just the way things were..........Truckers were Truckers..Tough Men and a few gals..That Did their jobs without excuses...Stood up for what was right..And Fathered many Young,Timid, new Drivers into the field....... But of course came a Price..And 1 of the Prices you Paid was you Didn't get done at 2pm and Hog a Front -row SPOT.....You would be woken up and instructed to Move come 9pm

Some states your allowed to park along on/off ramps, some your not. Id recommend if your gonna do that park along the "on" ramp not the "off" ramp.
