Hello out there.......I used to drive professionally in my mid twenties but drifted into other fields of endeavor. I am now considering getting my CDL and returning to trucking.
Will a 59 year old man have trouble finding employment because of his age. Thanks for your opinions.

No, there are older guys than you getting into the field. You'll be fine. When you drove in your early 20's were you OTR and with what company?

Trucking is about the only profession where there is no age discrimination.

Aye thanks for you input. I drove briefly for Midwestern Distribution and later Melton Truck Lines (they pulled boxes at that time). Most of my time was hauling pipe in FL and Ga.

I also started there in Ft. Scott, KS. I also remember Melton Truck Lines box trailers,"Home of the Running Rabbit."

What is your location, city/state, maybe we can help.

I agree, age discrimination shouldn't be an issue. However, what is your health status?

I think Midwestern was one of the first, if not the first, to offer lease purchase wasn't they?

I've trained students older than you in the past. Age won't be a problem with most companies as long as you are healthy enough to pass a DOT physical.

Like you I drove a few years in my early twenties, then got back into it last year at the age of 57. With no health issues it was very easy to get back in, and I'd say about 1/3 of my orientation class was over 50.

IMHO trucking companies would rather hire someone with real life experience and maturity. Less hand holding required and depending on the background a more mature person understands the bigger picture.
