So, driving tanker seems profitable, whats the catch?

I personally prefer Dry Bulk Tanking. You don't have to get it cleaned out like with Food Grade and don't have to worry about the sloshing back and forth with hazmat. Down side to it is its very top heavy so you don't want to take no curves at a high rate of fuel consumption with them. I made more money pulling them than I have ever made pulling van or reefer trailers and was home most every night. Didn't usually have to worry about backhauls with them either. Haul out loaded, haul in empty.

I ran tankers for years and there are a few downsides to them. Liquid loads and the surge is one aspect, you have to watch your speed in turns so you don't roll the trailer from the slosh factor, if placarded, people panic when they see you parked anywhere so finding a place to park can be a bit challenging. It's easy to load and unload, it all goes through a hose and a pump which is nice. If you develop a leak, the world becomes a very unfriendly place in a hurry. Just a few things to think about.

Hello drivers. I will be securing my cdl soon, school starts May 12th. I live outside of Ft. Wayne Indiana but my cdl will be issued by the state of Ohio. Can any of you point me in the right direction concerning tanker outfits that hire students? I have researched many van and flatbed companies, but for whatever reason have left tankers off my list. After having read a lot of your comments, I believe it would be worth looking into. Thank you up front for any and all responses. Safe travels to you all.

Here' 6 companies that hire new CDL graduates; they all do , so if anything on the website says "experience required" is because the website isn't updated yet:

    Trimac Transportation
    Schneider Bulk
    CTL Transportation
    SVTN
    Superior Carriers
    Tidewater Transit

Edit : Don't forget to get TWIC & passport.

Oh, just seen the last part of your post Chinatown. I already have a passport and TWIC in my possession. Acquired the TWIC in anticipation of driving a flatbed. I pulled them back in the early 90's. Don't think I'm gonna go that route this time. I'm glad to find out that it may still be of use!

Also, when entering curves, exit or entrance ramps, run about 5 mph below the posted speed limit and you will be ok. Don't worry about traffic behind you.

This, exactly. I wish I had found tanker earlier. I doubt I will ever switch back.
