LOL yeah there's a lot of industrial that most people wouldn't expect. Sparks was built by the railroad industry. They even have a fuel storage depot. I-80 runs along the north side of it. http://ndep.nv.gov/bca/ssfs01.htm

Reno to LV on hwy 95 at night. That's got to be LTL's most boring run. I'd roll a set of trips if it was my run.

I haven't made a delivery in years. I go to the same terminal, say hello to the same guy, grab an empty set and go back to my yard. I will never do anything else besides linehaul.

You think it's boring at night, you should drive it in the daylight. That couple of hundred miles from Tonopah to Vegas is the longest thousand mile stretch I've ever seen. . .:biggrin_2552:

I think Reno to Carlin, is worse at night. I dont mind doing it during the day.

I've really enjoyed reading Big Don's posts on this thread. He's described what city P&D is like very well. My experience to the variety of delivery is the same working at Reddaway here in Portland Oregon.

It really is a whole different kind of trucking than I've ever done in the past. I know it doesn't suit most people, but I enjoy it for it's variety and quick pace. Work is not the boring drudgery I felt just holding on to a steering wheel or the isolation and boredom of fuel delivery.

Trucking can be so different depending on the industry we get into. If someone is not happy where they are, I definitely recommend taking the risk and finding something that suits your personality.

Thanks tigair. What is kind of comical though is that a lot of folks wouldn't even consider where we are here to be "city." The whole county is only about 150,000 people, and those spread out between about 14 or perhaps more small communities. St. George is the largest with a population of around 75,000.
The dock that I worked out of covered a whole lot of territory, pretty much from Beaver, UT to Mesquite, NV north and south, and from NV/UT border to Escalante, UT to the east. Once in a while somebody would have to go over to Page, but that was usually handled out of another dock.
It did make for a lot of variety though.

That's a good day for me. A bad day is a skid of hardwood flooring 10 feet long and weighing 3000 lbs going to somebody's house.

You can't even move that with a pallet jack, let alone try and shove something like that out on a liftgate.

One end of strap tied around skid, other end of strap tied around a sturdy tree, and drive out from under it. OR if the consignee doesn't want it damaged, then they'd best make some arrangements. Or somebody in your office needs to.
Sounds like another good job for a Gradall.
