If that's the zero day exploit I think it is, all versions of IE are potentially exploitable. Best thing to use IE for is and has always been downloading another browser.

No, it's really starting to show its age.The only reason I still use it is because I have so many old programs for it and its still compatable with almost everything but its definitely starting to feel antiquated. My next purchase will be a Microsoft surface.

betcha didn't know, though, that without IE. those other browsers are worthless. they sort of need ie as their backbone to even function.
you strip windows of ie. and you got nothing to surf with. i've been trying, since win95.

i have a hacked version of win7 i've been useing. i can't update ie8. and it's getting to the point of not being able to access certain websights anymore. i need to update my browsers. i don't know how you people could put up with xp when it comes to the internet. i don't think that version would update past ie6.

No, those other browsers use their own proprietary code for surfing the internet, as using any part of Internet Explorers code would be a nice fat copyright infringement. Opera, Firefox, Safari, Google Chrome and its many permutations, etc., do not require any part of IE to function, whatsoever.

Furthermore, you can't update IE8, or any other of Windows7's features because you guessed it, you're using a cracked version. Microsoft has something called "Windows Genuine Advantage" that cross references your activation key against your hard drives (or motherboards, cant remember) serial number to verify that you are the original owner of the software. When an activation code is submitted to their servers from several different machines, WGA locks that copy of Windows out, and will provide no further updates to any Microsoft software.

I'm still running XP and don't plan an upgrading any time soon. Is it really a big security risk since support ended?

delete your ie folders and everything associated with ie. see if you can still surf the net.

as for the other comments. your not telling me things i haven't known since msft started that activation crap.

You don't want windows 8 anyway because windows has pulled support for part of those programs too (I think 8 sp2?) From my understanding they are working on win 9.

I was wondering what was going on with my win 7 I bought. I paid $110.00 for a brand new version of 7 (still in shrinkwrap). I installed it to replace Vista in my other computer and Microsoft would not activate it after I installed it. They tried to sell me another key for $40 bucks before they would activate it. I told them to stick it up where the sun don't shine. Microsoft is getting bad. Im thinking about replacing windows in all of mine. I said you are telling me that my key is valid but you cant activate it unless I buy another key from you, whats going on with that? He said the key is valid but I cant activate it. I said fine, Ill just quit buying windows programs.

No, the original 8.1; they're forcing people to go to 8.1 update 1. 8.0 is still going to be supported. There must be some serious bug in the original 8.1 to force people off of it.
