No worries 'olhand...I can't be right all the time....But beg to differ just a bit , while I'll agree that speed has something to do with mpg's it does .... the driver has more to do with it. The way he handles his shifting , controlling the rpm range that he uses and all that. , combined with say a triple digit truck. Don't know your set-up but if you run against the governor all the time , then your mpg's are gonna suck. But , in your case I'll wager you have at the very least 2 t0 300 hundred rpm's left running at 65/68...It's not really how fast you wind -up going that determines fuel mileage....it's how much foot/horse-power it takes , to get you to , and maintain that speed. Whether it's 72ish or 65ish.....your thoughts .....

Yep, one of my First jobs in the early 80s, drove a 238 detroit that was governed at 55 and unless empty and rolling down hill never seen that truck do more than 50 or less loaded.
But also drove a 318 Detroit that was ungoverned and would do triple digits

A gallon per mile would mean 200 gallons would be burned in 200 miles. -
I strongly suggest you wake up and follow the speed limit signs 5 miles over is the max.You go 10 or over be prepared for a reckless charge and lose your job.

It feels like I should run my 4 ways in construction, even though I'm running 2 or 3 over the speed limit. Or on 322 in PA going down the hill heading west on 322. It's posted 20 mph for trucks and I don't feel like getting a ticket for going way too fast, which would be very easy.

If I run 70mph and another driver runs 75mph, the other driver, in 10 hours, will get 50 miles farther than I do. However, if the other driver gets pulled over for that 5mph over, we'll probably get to the same place at the same time after that trooper takes 10 times too long to write that ticket. I'll burn less fuel and pay less for my insurance at next renewal which makes going 50 miles less a day worth it. I trip plan my loads so I'm not jammed into a stressful time/distance corner so I might live longer too. By the way, I usually cruise about 65mph and average 8mpg even though I drive a triple digit truck. However, just for fun I do occasionally run it up to full triple digit speed: 69.9mph.

I won't routinely run 10mph over the speed limits, especially when weather/traffic/construction zones dictate the pace, but I will when I feel like it's safe to do so. I've been a licensed driver for just shy of 13 years and never had a speeding ticket. Hell, the speeds I used to drive in my late-teens/early 20's would probably shock a few. I just think it's hilarious how certain people just love to jump all over anything that isn't straight by the book. Jesus, don't you people ever live a little?
