thanks lil blue.. will do.. guess ill have to start re"reading what i type lol

Thanks for the advice aftershock and scarecrow. I will definitely consider companies with APU's or moving to them. I did a little research. A company like Schneider would have to pay 96Mil to outfit their entire fleet. They boast over a bil in profits so why wouldn't they? That says a lot about if they care about their drivers to me.
-
Schneider is a good outfit from what I've heard. Not a bad place to get your start.
My only quirk with them is that they're a HUGE company. I don't like to be just a number. I'm a small town country boy from Illinois (originally) who went to small schools (graduating high school class size was 44) and I'm very used to individual attention, for lack of better word.
I did start out at a large company (PAM) and worked for a couple others (CFI and KLLM), but I was much happier at the smaller companies.
My point/advice would be to get the experience you need there, then seek out something closer to home that's both reputable and small.
I liked having my dispatcher's cell phone number and knowing that I could call him any time day or night. I also had the cell numbers for the safety director, load planner, and the operations manager. Made me feel like I was truly part of a team, albeit a small one.
-
YuP!
YuP!
AND, the home and cell numbers for the two main owners as well as ALL the dispatchers (3) -- and the head mechanic -- with directions to CALL -- ANYtime.
BUT!
You BETTER have a good reason.
Seemed fair to me.
It really WAS a "team" thang feeling there.
I Helped build lifeguard towers and move 'em several times -- in the sand -- down in Sandy Eggo -- for a world-wide Lifeguard competition.
Made friends with the Ossies.
And even got flashed by a chick in a convertible Corvette on I-15 north bound on the way back to the warehouse.
Man-0-Man!
Those Aussies KNOW how to suck suds!
And I don't mean salt water suds.
Delivered brand new watercraft to a (former) pristine beach in Florida after a storm wiped-out the intended photo-shoot area.
Scouted another location.
You mighta seen the final results on posters of personal watercraft, -- IF your eyes got past the Hawaiian Tropics Girls perched thereon.
All that beach-buildin' work and nobody even notices what WE did!
NO appreciation!
I oughta just QUIT!
And get a REAL job.
After the photo-shoot wrapped up --- there was still daylight. At least six-hours.
SOMEbody has to run the watercraft's gas tanks dry before loading them in the haulers.
OH!
And the 4-wheel AT vehicles that pull the watercraft to and from the shore, over the beach WE built -- and up the ramps into the haulers. Run those tanks out, too.
This isn't Barstow, Dorothy. It's -----------
Florida --
A Secluded, north/east facing beach -- with junk to run over for fun with the AWD ATV's, - -- - and water and craft for crafting on the water. Clear water.
A private playground complete with toys.
Get 'er DONE!!
Oh, peachy!
The HT GIRLS wanna ride with us.
I swear!
I'm gonna QUIT this truckin' gig.
As soon as I get back.
Hello, front desk?
I'll be here another week.
Please send someone up here to wax my surfboard.
YuP!
Put it all on the same tab.
Thanx.
Shux Howdy --- one of our employees had a crush on Pamela Anderson -- after delivering the Bay Watch watercraft to the Hollwierd locations on several, perhaps too many, occasions. This boy was in L O V E.
AND lust.
Then, one day, when the caterers were late, and the actors only had the roach-coach, where everybody ELSE ate, from which to dine, things could get cozy.
But there was plenty of room.
He thought,...................
Here's my big chance to meet Panela!
And it WAS ---and he DID!
Hi Pam. --- real cooolllll like --
Think James Dean.
Then,........................ she spoke.
To him!
She said:
I am NOT in the habit of speaking with the crew or the hired help.
How sweet, ........ no?
It put a kink in his aorta and stomped his heart somthin' fierce.
But, the company was sendin' him to Hawaii in a week -- for two weeks of photo shoots over there.
THIS time, the beach was already there. Waiting for the watercraft to be launched.
He got over Pam pretty quickly.
After that, it was off to the Bahamas -- for a whole durned week. But he mighta decided to reset his clock before flying home. The company gave him that option.
As I recall, rumors had it that half the Hawaiian Tropics Girls elected to remain as well.
Photo shoots were over.
Time was now on THEIR side.
Perks
doncha know.
Probably wouldn'ta ever got those perks drivin' a Big truck painted (Distinctive) Orange.
Ya reckon.

I dunno if I could tolerate workin' for a company like that, Shocky, but if you gimme a line on how to get in touch with 'em I just might give a whirl!
It'd be purdy rough, but I might be able to suffer through it for a few years (read: lifetime).

Shocky you are so right on thinking outside -the -box...sooo many people can never figure out there it always more than one way to skin a cat. -
OMG!!! You guys are hilarious.
Living here in Louisville there is a plethora of small companies just laying around within 100 miles of me. So I will have my pick. I agree with scarecrow. I'm a country boy at heart too and would rather the small company. but if I have to go with a big company as a starter I will. But Maw & Paw hold a spot for me!!! -
I know of young guys around here that get their start runnin dump trks concrete trks get 2 yr in go to small co learn ropes then choice is yours....remember DON"T SIGN NO LEASE OR LEASE PURCHASE NOTHIN...don't let a co ever get into you. seen guys not handle money engin goes down so owner of co finances him and soon he loses trk. This happens in sm co's here be finanialy smart/stable enough to pay your own way and don't let co help. We never take adv on loads, hav chk cash policy at J can get up to 200 cash if needed, have big limit on my visa ( have no bal due on this) he uses if major thing happens on road, banker will always float me a loan if I need it to pay off visa and if you are ever self emp get st up paying qu tx from the get go don't wait till next tax season to find out how much you now owe in penalties because you did not do quarterlys. other that htat have a great time on the open highway seeing America bst of luck and don't forget us here....

Oh no, I've done the math plus I've heard the roar load and clear on that one. No lease for me. I'd rather go out and buy my own truck straight out before I did that...Hey scarecrow and aftershock. Which company is hands down your top pick? Just curious...
