Had a printer, and was told to give the logs to them. Not the phone. It is not hooked to the truck so it is just like the computer logs. Not able to hand them over and fine issued.
Show me where in the regs that they MUST give you time to print the requested documents.
Even their web site tells you that you may be fined for not printing each day.

If the inspector refused to view the logs electronically, then the driver must have been placed out of service for not being able to produce ANY logs. Why would the Inspector accept present days log, without a signature, in an electronic form, and not accept last seven days in the same fashion?
Computer logs are not gps enabled as is Big Road. Big Road is not connected to the engine or speedo but it moves with the truck. I think this is where they will get you. At the start of both inspections, the Inspector asked if my device works with gps? On the first inspection I wasn't exactly sure what to say. I replied, my phone is gps enabled. On the second inspection same was asked and this time I replied yes! my device works off gps and I was sent on my way.
Their web site doesn't say you may be fined for not having it previous days logs already printed It says you can be fined IF the inspector DEMAND a printed version and you are UNABLE to provide one. In which case they recommend you keep a working printer on your truck.
Can I be put out-of-service if Im using BigRoad and have a working printer available?
No, you should not receive an out-of-service violation in this case. The North American Standard Out-of-Service Criteria (footnote 10 for drivers record of duty status) states that a driver who utilizes an electronic device other than those described in 395.15 shall not be declared out-of-service if the driver has the ability to print and sign previously completed record of duty status that comply with 395.8 upon demand.

Inspectors in Missouri have been trained to demand paper copies for electronic devices that are not connected to the engine. Drivers using BigRoad in Missouri should ensure that they have a working printer available.

When you are asked for the previous 7 days and cannot immediately provide them you are in violation. He said that he could print them. Officer stated that they should be printed per the rules each day.
You still have not shown the regulation that states you are given time to provide.
This program is no different than a computer log program. DDL users ran into it years ago.
I am just trying to let you know what can happen.
I really do not care if you get caught or not.Last edited: May 4, 2014

the fact is, many officers are content with just looking at the screen, and decline when I ask if they want the previous 7 I have already printed out.
you are confusing the regs with a eobr and laptop or smartphone application, whether it is gps enabled has nothing to do with it, if it isn't connected to the ecm it isn't a eobr.
the reg that roadmedic posted is the actual guidance from fmcsa, you can believe or not believe , but that's the actual facts. -
Why would anyone even want to take a chance by using this? Buy the paper logs. Is it really that big of a deal?

Yeah, I missed that printing for a few days and they did give me a hard time but let it go this time if I got paper logs.... Went down the street and picked up a new book. Went through a level 1 too. 2nd one in 6 months.... Got a sticker!!!
I am now staying paper until they make me change. -
print them every day, sign, and you have no problems and aren't taking a chance.
if you try to pass it off as an eobr and refuse to print every day, ya got problems.Cetane+, Roadmedic, CondoCruiser and 1 other person Thank this. -
How do inspectors feel about the printed signature? (You sign the screen, then it prints on the logs)
