No union doesn't have to be part of the equation ,but it's nice to have anti theif devices on things these days ,because this man has a family i strongly urge him to stay close to his family with local work ....LTL ...having a cdl ,he can work the dock, and yard dog it for awhile ...with a union company ,there's good medical insurance ,good money,401k ,retirement plans and a safe organized operation and no one can argue this fact ....about uion jobs ....just sayin this because OP is a family man OTR is not a good choice for family values ....we drive for our families not trucking companies .....atleast that's my bottom line on any package ,any time!!!!

That's a new one, companies know why drivers don't stay but fail to do anything about it.If they were that concerned then they would be talking to the drivers that quit or listen to the drivers that do talk to upper management. But like everything else in this industry, goes in one ear and out the other.

Patty, you know all too well it's always about the dollar. Many companies think if they get 70% of their drivers to stay a year or more, they're money ahead. Failing to see that they're throwing away money on retraining, orientations, time and money lost from equipment not being used, etc.

Your big players Swift Prime and Werner take advantage of these subsidies without a doubt. With Werners and Primes OTJ program you ride with a mentor for 1 year and then you can take your test for your cdl and receive a certificate of completion from the dept. of labor. I know this is not the traditional way people get their cdl but both companies offer this option. The dept of labor promotes otj training for all trades that are in demand. The gov't pays these companies to train students like this. I heard Stevens and Swift get grants from the dept. of education to run their schools and Stevens will even pay for training from a school in your hometown! Its gotta be a kickback that they are getting for that maybe with taxes etc. Nobody is that generous without the govt backing them, use your head people!

First of all, why wouldn't a company take advantage of an available subsidy? Or better yet, why shouldn't they? Oh noez, big bad mega truck company taking advantage of the system!

    But wait......

Of my class of 32.........3 people got assistance with schooling. Two people were in the National Guard and one was a veteran (me). National Guard people got $1k off. Schooling for veterans is free with one year of service. They didn't know I was a vet before I went e.g. they didn't recruit me knowing they would get a subsidy. I didn't know there was a program for vets. Now there is a good argument for why I shouldn't get a break, but to argue that Swift and I shouldn't take advantage of a Federal program is beyond silly.

The bottom line here is that OP acted like a tool and decided to insult truckers in his first post and create a username that is insulting. Chances are OP is just a troll and is sitting back eating popcorn.

If there's something I don't agree with,im not shy about taking my concern to someone higher up and won't stop hounding them till I get an answer.Companies throw money away like ppl do trash because they know the government will bail them out.People that quit this industry, how often does your companies talk you out of it.They don't care.I have 10 ppl to take your spot not to mention subsidy. If the smaller companies were receiving subsidy they would be driving brand spanken new trks also.I think its a shame drivers are paid poverty wages along with low miles mainly the starter companies while the companies are making mega bucks and the upper staff is making mega bucks.I personally won't do anything to try and save company money because what have they done for me.Meaning unless they pay me for everything that requires being onduty, they're going to pay me.

Guys I don't think the op used this screen name to bash all the drivers. He had a bad exp so I think his screen name was meant for them.I think hes been respectful and professional in all his posts.More times then not no matter how much homework u do,you don't find things out about the company till you're there. He had no idea he would be sitting so long.Hope he has much better luck with his next company.Local driving is not in the cards though unless that company has a training program.I would suggest construction.Pay is much better
