There's a sign that says "violators will be ticketed" but how seriously do they enforce this? A few weeks ago I shut my truck off and I guess my cooler drained my batteries and I had to have it jumped off. I'd like to avoid a repeat of that, but also avoid a ticket.

Its been a few yrs ive been to the northeast, but back then I idled everywhere including plazas and never got ticketed. If you're worried about it then don't idle and unplug cooler and but a syrofoam cooler.

They go on blitzes sometimes ... I go through ny state often in the summer months, have never come across them. But I have heard some stories like they will show up in the middle of the night to get some quick revenue ... Not sure if there is any provision as to outside temperature ...

I believe if it is 25 degrees or below your ok to idle. I dont know what the upper limit is.

don't worry about the anti idle crowd and idle as if it is going out of style.oh wait.it is. i idle exactly when i deem it appropriate to do so which equates to 90% of the time.surely you'll get a warning before they write you up.with a 50/50 chance,i say go for it.BE COMFORTABLE,not miserable and politically correct-

I've never heard of NY authorities enforcing the idle laws anywhere outside NYC.

Occasionally they will go on a tear and start ticketing trucks. Not often, but they do. To the guy who idles all the time, must be nice to have money to burn. Common sense is not a friend, is it.....
