What great deal of money did you spend bigdogpile to come up with that conclusion? Truckload companies have be 'working' on the driver turnover problem for 30+ years. Wasting all this money when they could have got the answer from somebody named bigdogpile.

Of course it it not for appearances or to cover up the employment scam they are running.

You are conflating two different points.

The turnover exists so they can increase the likely hood of obtaining a driver eligible for subsidies. Rotate out the drivers that don't meet the criteria. Rotate in the new, try to sell your training service, and a percentage of the new will be eligible for the wotc, eeoc, or some other subsidy.

The driver shortage cry is just to cover up the scam, to entice more subsidy prospects, to sell their worthless training with, and to elicit more potential subsidies from the government. If running a scam it is important not to make obvious what the scam is, especially to those that help you preform it. Best to cover it up with 'genuine concern.'

Bigdogpile, lol love that name, has a point. The turnover rate would shrink if they paid a decent wage. They really don't want to cure the problem because it would cut too much into their profits. For the sacrifices drivers make there is no reason why we shouldn't gross at least $2k a week. Even then the turnover rate would be higher than most industries because living out of a truck is no piece of cake.

The Department of transportation pays the training company $7,000 per student after the students completes the government mandated training period, which is 6 months. The mega training companies make their profit from the government, and just cover expenses from the freight. Info provided by an insider at one of the major training companies.

here is a link to apply for the grants...

sorry, I know of no general subsidies to trucking companies. Doesn't mean there are not some out there though.

$100k a year? Yea, that sounds reasonable given the average attorney makes that after 10yrs of practice. :biggrin_2551:

I hope you come to Roehl..(I hopefully am starting sometime in June) I didn't mean to laugh at your post but I was cracking up! Like others have told me...the first year isn't going to be pretty and that is what I believe. I'm not going to set my expectations to high so I will not be let down later. And I'm leaving a job that I made 95k at last year! But factory work is no longer glorious to me....

The average attorney isn't confined to a 9x10 box 23 hours a day thousands of miles from home. OTR drivers make sacrifices so they should be compensated for it.
