Oh and what kind of hazmat loads would a flatbed haul?
-
You do realize that is a highly subjective question and one can only base any opinion on on the few they actually have experience with (they have a limited frame of reference). If you could find someone who has driven for 20 of the top flatbed fleets in the nation in the last 5 years, that would be great to ask that person.
I only have experience with TMC, I vote TMC
Some flatbed carriers haul totes and drums of corrosives and chemicals used in the energy production sector that require hazmatAirborne Thanks this. -
I would go with Melton for after talking and going to lunch at a KW shop in NH Kenworth. Didn't have anything bad to say about them at all.
TMC not bad either they have more options for other services besides just flat bed. Also they have a boat hauler account not sure if that's new. After reading it sounds like a dream. Maybe to good to be true...idk. Good luck! -
Keep in mind, a driver is one tool, in the company's toolbox, the company uses to make money for the shareholders. Keep it in perspective. It's not a big family. Personally, I couldn't care less if the office people know me by name or number; preferably I would rather just be a number that gets paid on payday.
The way I view it is, what do you want? This is what I would look for in today's trucking:
APU's (optional, but preferred)
401K
Healthcare benefits
48 states running
Assessorial pays
Companies that advertise, "one big family" or "be known by a name, not a number", use this as a recruiting tool and it's nothing more than that. It's not important, only your pay and benefits are important. -

Just my opinion. If going flatbed my main thing was training. Especially if you are going heavy and or long. Lots to know about securement and loading. Way more than I realized.
