It's not a linear relationship. In fact I'd suspect that a 62 mph averages more like 56 to 58 over the course of the day, where a 52 mph truck averages more like 50. This is supported by a number of folks who have kept track of such changes... and it's mostly due to the dynamics of traffic flow.
OTOH, if I were paid cents-per-mile, I'd want to be running as fast as I could as well. I'm not. Best change I ever made getting off of being paid pennies, and on to being paid dollars.
If I passed the same Prime truck 3 times....

Sadly most people don't look far enough ahead. The fun thing about driving 60 or less is watching how many idiots are driving fast, but not making sound judgements. I had this guy pass me flying. Then there was a truck about 4 truck lengths in front of me, and at the time I thought he was going to stay in the left and pass the truck. Nope the idiot gets behind the guy for one second long enough for the 4 wheeler to think that he is going to let him go. Then he cuts off the 4 wheeler and he(4wheeler) has to hit his brakes to not be hit by dum truck driver.
I'm not going to even count how many times I've seen speed racer jump between a fast moving truck and somebody he is about to pass. You guys who like that excitement. Mash that motor. Im going to stay in the slow lane and make sure I have an out when luck is no longer on your side.
Texan you don't work for Prime. So why are you in their business. It's work smarter not harder, and if you want to stand on your petal then so be it. We all choose the company we want to work for. So when people get tired of running for prime maybe they will come over to Helwig. That's if he doesn't sell the company again to Trans Am before he makes a comeback. Funny thing is you see Prime, and Helwig and all the rest at the same dock. They are not giving your company more money because you can make it to your appointment 4 hours earlier then the next guy.Dipschitt, 77smartin, ironpony and 1 other person Thank this. -

what a lot of guys don't get, is that you can set it at 60, leave the left door closed, and make all the money you need to make in a day. Also, everybody is passing you.....they can play the 65 vs. 66 mph game all they want to several miles up the road.
Me, I'm just ridin' along.....no big dealironpony, Dinomite and JimmyBones Thank this. -
Don't blame Prime (or other slow companies) for your lack of awareness and defensive driving skill.
Me? I make enough to do what I need to do. I don't own my own truck, nor do I ever intend to, so it woudl be foolish of me to think I'm going to make the big bucks in this business.
I prefer to hang in the back away from all the idiots anyway.
edit #2:
it really does suck having a neutered truck in hilly areas. Seems like very other hill on I80 in PA, and just about anywhere in VA slows me down to under 50.NavigatorWife and Dinomite Thank this. -
Temp controlled foods hauling is no place to conduct goofy tests on fuel mileage and driver tolerances. If they are really concerned about fuel economy and cost savings, put those trailers on a train ... plus, the train may well beat the truck from Salinas to Baltimore. God help us all if they discover they can squeeze a a little more MPG out at 48 MPH. Where will this stop? Where will they discover the peak of the MPG/Speed economy rise and will that become the "company mandatory speed"?
fuzzeymateo, Wingnut1 and browndawg Thank this. -
Texan you go 65 mph you aren't setting any land speed records yourself. Gee's really dude?
ironpony Thanks this.
