I always thought they were ugly. I think guys who still want a hood but want to be apart from the Paccar crowd have no choice except a Starcar anymore or find old iron.

Come up to the northeast. In Maine and VT, they're darn near every third truck out there at least, and that's not even counting the Canadian guys. In my book there isn't much to dislike about them. Wide cab, tons of room in even the smaller sleepers, flat-topped dash (personal like), very solidly built without weighing an absolute ton, good dealer support, easy to work on if you don't count the multiplexed instrument cluster which are occasionally a PITA.

Mine's clocked in at 1.3million,and the only rattles are a panel in the cabinet that keeps loosening.

Buy some thread lock at an auto parts store. That'll stop it.

I don't like the shape of the cab on a Western Star. The interiors are nice. My only experience is a friend of mine bought a used one and he was always sitting in the shop. He didn't keep it a year as it ate up the funds.

It's inside the wooden cabinet...one of those contraptions that has a tall screw and a quarter turn fastener on the other side that engages the head of the screw. The sort of thing you see in flat pack furniture, or something. Going to screw it together with a pilot hole and appropriate wood screws, I think...

Back in the day...early '80's I'd guess, the milk truck driver got a new truck. When he arrived at our farm that day to pick up the milk with that shiny new Star Car, it was a jaw dropping experience for this kid. It was quite a step up from that tired old Mack. I had never seen anything like it.

I think he's talking about current production models.
