If it was me I'd stay on I39 to.I88 to I294. A lot of tolls but is pretty quick.
As already said its all about timing

No I-pass, but have petty cash. They never complain about tolls and I pay them almost every week somewhere....

seems to me from memory there is a little I-290 in between I-90 and I-294. I remember that section as if you are going to the west, that exit from 294 to 290 is confusing and sucks. If you are not familiar with it you will get stuck out in the left lane and then have to work back into the right...it's a good route but that interchange there is typically slow and backed up due to congestion.

Patty J is right. I do have experience and it is different for newbies. I use my Garmin Dezl 760 and just drive. The truck I just bought, doesn't get here until July 14, has an I-shift. So traffic is easy to deal with. If there is construction or loads of traffic, I can push the detour button and get a different route to go on. That is what experience brings to the tablet.

Chicago is just another large city. But it has been a large city for a long time. They do not want long traffic delays and have built roads to handle it. If you are going through the area it is usually not very bad. Cities like Austin, Texas are the ones that have no idea how to handle traffic.

After you have been through the large Cities once or twice you will gain the confidence that you need. Soon it will be just another day at the office and you will wonder why they pay you so much for such little work.

I would take I90 to I290 east to I294 south to I80 east to I94 east

Regardless of which route you take, just enjoy it because you're not in Atlanta. The only good time to transit Atlanta is...well, I haven't found one yet.

Yeah I forgot that part, doh. The mind is going, lol. I've run it a million times and even lived up there 2 years. Alter route to I-90, I-290, I-294.

I use to come down US53 from the house and get on I-290.
