I'm looking into buying Coronado with that wheelbase, and stacks behind cab. I'm pulling a van right now, so it will work for me. But if I ever switched to flats would it still work? thanx

Would it work for you in terms of what?

IMO if your looking for a versatile all around good riding truck that can still maneuver in the city that would be near perfect as far as wheelbase.

Isn't 244" the magic length that allows you into all the Canadian provinces as well? I think you can go longer in some provinces or with special permits.

I ran 244" WB with either a 48' or 53' flat and had no problems. Nice ride on the HWY but still short enough that I could actually turn tight onto streets and in yards. I didn't haul anything that required me to have a front over hang though. Ran 4 legger flat and never had issues of too much weight up front with 12 and 40's..

Used to be that 244 was the longest you could be when hooked to a 53 in ON without a permit. Not sure if that is still the case or not.

    bergy Thanks this.

What could make a big difference with a flat is what the kingpin is set at on the trailer. A 36 inch kingpin and it might get into your headache rack. Just be aware of this when looking at flatbed trailers. Also like mentioned before is how much you can hang over the front or how far up a wide load can sit.

I pull a 53' live bottom and have a 244" set back axle shaker and have no permits. I do believe 244 is the longest WB for trains in ON as well

That will probably be one of those Coronados with the setback front axle like ATS and EW Wylie run some. The regular Coronado is a hood, and comes in at 265-270wb. If you get the exhaust behind the cab, and that short of a wheelbase, you're going to find yourself in a bind, even more so if you run a rack.

I have a 236" freight liner Columbia with a headache rack and no problems so far. I had a stack and made it a grass burner to get the rack close as possible to the cab and still allow clearance for the cab air ride
