I own 10 trucks all of which haul heavy (35-70 tons). Most of my trucks are Petes but two of them are Kenworths. All the Petes have cats in them (2x's 3406e 2ws, 2x's c15 6nz, 3x's c16) and the Kenworths have cummins and petes (not for sure what type of cummins are in the trucks they're newer style motors with the eco protective system on them but the cat is a c15 accert twin turbo). BY FAR the best motor, in my opinion, is the c16. None of the other trucks can touch it on a hill with a big load on, the c16 will get 2-3% better mpg than the cummins and c15 accert, and also breaks down WAY less than all the other motors.
c16 vs c15

I've got a 15.8 E model 1MM prefix. I'll take that over a C15 or a 14.6E model any day of the week. Pulling power is second to none. I've blown enough 14.6s and 15.2s away to know. That being said I'll pass everything on the road but a fuel stop and they're heavier (bout 1000lbs) but if weight isn't an issue, and fuel isn't an issue there is no comparison between the 2 motors. Also keep in mind you don't actually technically speaking have to buy a C16...just need a friend that has a C16 so you can order the parts to convert a 14.6 C15 to a 15.8. I'll die before I let than 15.8 go they've got a sound all they're own and there's nothing like hearing 600 horses thundering down the highway. Just my .02
t800kwopper Thanks this. -
I'm pretty sure my 6nz 550 can be a 7cz 600 with no hardware changes.

Horsepower is a measure of work over time...
Torque is a measure of rotational force...
How to Calculate Horsepower
Back in the late 1700s, as one story goes, Scottish inventor and entrepreneur James Watt needed a way to explain to London brewery owners why his steam engines were better than the horses they used to grind the mash, and calculated the amount of work one horse could do in a minute. Thus the term horsepower was coined. Not only did Mr. Watt sell his steam engines, he introduced a system of measurement that is still in use today.
Torque is a measure of how much a force acting on an object causes that object to rotate. The object rotates about an axis, which we will call the pivot point, and will label 'O'. We will call the force 'F'. The distance from the pivot point to the point where the force acts is called the moment arm, and is denoted by 'r'. Note that this distance, 'r', is also a vector, and points from the axis of rotation to the point where the force acts. (Refer to Figure 1 for a pictoral representation of these definitions.)

They're the same, but different...so the turbo lag in the 15.8l results in a longer time measurement vs the more rapid spool up/less lag of the 15.2l resulting in a shorter time measurement...hence the close results in HP.
This is why our HP numbers are not a huge variance over large displacement V8 gasoline engine...however the rotating mass of our large displacement inline 6 cylinder engines obviously produce our superior torque measurement.Dustyroads38 and Marc Tanner Thank this. -

maybe I said that wrong. It could do 600hp. But if you're trying to say the 7cz is far superior to the 6nz You're sadly mistaken.

snowman_w900, KB3MMX and Cetane+ Thank this.

I stand corrected. The 6nz is junk because you said it is. And all this time I thought it was the best CAT motor ever made according to so many experts in the field. Just goes to show you can't believe everything you read. Thanks for setting the record straight.
