Sure did. Life is too short to be miserable. I get home just about every weekend and apparently I'm one of the few that actually enjoys their job. I can wake up every morning knowing that I'm happy and my family is well taken care of. I won't be over the road forever, but id like to stack away enough money for a down payment for a new house on the lake. Then I'll go back to my local job enjoying only working 40 hours a week with paid holidays off. Things work different for people. Local doesn't pay well where I'm at, so OTR works for now.

Are you still in Chicagoland? Maybe you'd like to settle near a lake in lets say Blairstown, IA.

By lake I meant Mississippi River. I live about a half hour from Sabula, IA. Used to work in Clinton. I'm dying to sell our house and be on the water.

Hmmm, good to know. You're not in a bad area for someone I know. Can you take a truck across 52 there? I don't feel like pulling out my atlas, or you know finding it.

Not sure about water, but I hear you can get a "shiny" new house in Florida for cheap, and if you don't like the locale...hook up and pull it somewhere else..LOL

    Heysunshine and Meltom Thank this.

Meltom, I don't recall. I'll be at the river this weekend. I'll check!

And hahaha. I could always trailer the house to the water ;)

    Meltom and Redriderex Thank this.

I started out in an operation like that.

How are they getting away with running you like this legally?

I know what that's like. What's typical for my LTL job is walking out the door at 7 AM, and not walking back through it until 9 PM or so, although thursday night I didn't get home until close to midnight. A week of that usually takes all weekend to recover from, and you won't feel like doing much of anything.

Local drivers have to deal with something OTR drivers don't, and that's a commute. Mine is 45 minutes one way.

I'd have to agree. Your situation sounds like a ticking time bomb.

    Very true.

This, however, there is NO excuse for.

When I was driving for a construction company they tried to get me to take a dump truck out with a broken front spring. Absolutely not.

This I have to take issue with. First of all, just because you think something of that nature is "fact" does not make it so.

Second, I'll admit to not play well with others myself. That is why I do this job. It's a good fit. Many drivers fit into this category. Tolerance, or perhaps even enjoyment of solitude is somewhat of a prerequisite for this job, and for you to compare them to "Neanderthals" the way you have is quite insulting.

This is how you talk about one of your best friends:?

If you were truly a friend to him one would think you'd try to be a little more understanding.

That was my thinking as well. I've ran across my share of OTR guys that bring linehauls into my terminal, and they look, suffice to say, thoroughly unprofessional.

If I were an OTR guy I would be in uniform at all times like I usually am now.

I'll agree with that, and on that note the name calling stops immediately, from everyone.

    Thank you very much.

That's true, which is why WE are here.:)

Sounds like someone should have came aboard sooner and did a little reading.:)

Not really. Some construction companies don't pay that well, but it's a good way to start out.

Yep an old cat l was talking to last week had gone local and went back OTR. He had to be at the local job at 5am then off after 8pm usually. The company also made him run a log book so they could keep him out 15 hrs a day.

Roehl was one of my first choices but doing my research here straight up set off my Spidey Sense that it would be a disorganized, overbearing micro managing joke with asinine nit picky rules. You should have done your research everything you needed to know is within the pages of these forums. Next time be smarter and good luck!
