I like the cab to be as quiet as possible, so I never have a cb or radio of any type on. I prefer to listen to the engine for signs of any issue it may be having, or possibly hearing a blow out on a tire, or being able to hear emergency vehicles, train horns, etc.

I have seen plenty of vehicles driving down the road with only the remnents of a tire hanging on their rim. At that time I would use the CB and let the driver know. Most were unaware.

I also had a couple times driving a LCV where I didn't hear one as well.

Perhaps you have super human hearing :biggrin_25519: <-- Just kidding around!

Yeah I wish CB use was more widespread like it used to be and I'm not sure it ever will be with the new crop of drivers. But I remain hopeful...

I *loved* CB back in the '70s when I was a kid. I put up an outside antenna, and I was able to hear the truckers on I-70! :) I got my ham license, and even today feel the same magic whenever I get on the low bands and hear where the band is open to.

I *want* to keep the CB on. Most days, I do have it on when I start out, but when the noise starts to give me a headache, I reach for the knob. And by "noise", I mean overmodulation and the "echo turned to 11" people. If you're maxing my meter, and I have to strain to hear what you're saying, then I'm not going to bother. I hear people so overmodulated that my squelch mutes their voice peaks. Now *that* is a bad signal.

Turn on the stereo in the dash, and go to the AM broadcast band. Find the local "all talk" or "all news" station. *That* is the sound that we should be trying to have on our signal. Easy to understand, even at the extreme range of the signal where there's more noise than voice.

I couldn't agree more. I've always a thought it was a bit egocentric to try to have the loudest radio on the road or in the truck stop. At that point, it's time to turn it off.

I have enjoyed Stern lately for the humor and good interviews.

I have Sirrus XM and all that but I find I like using my tablet to stream my local Kansas City KMBZ talk radio. Rush is on that. Also some of the local stuff is fine. My books from audible. I have a Bose speaker that is bluetooth velco'ed to the dash. Works nice. I cannot understand the CB most of the time. My hearing my be going.

The books I like are Tom Clancy and Vince Flynn. Both of whom died this past year. I like the Harry Bosch series of cop books and Nelson DeMille books. The Lion and Loin's game are two by Demille that are must.
