depends on who you work for. I'd say ltl pays the best. Our local guys get roughly $24 an hour. They normally spend 12 hours at work. minus an hour lunch and an additional 30 min after 10 hours. Might sound like good money but its not that good. Our road drivers get paid the best. Our schedule runs pay anywhere from $200 - $350 a day/night. Our Team drivers get .60+ cents per mile to split and run roughly 1200 mile schedules. They bring home the biggest check but in myopinion are not paid the best because they are at work 24/5. My schedule takes 8 hours and pays roughly $280 a night. Some ltl outfits do better some do less. They are always asking for volunteers to work weekends so the gross income can be whatever we want it to be.

All of you union locals that are commenting about grossing 85k. I am curious how much of that is taken out per year for taxes, pension contribution, and union dues? Without per deim I would think you would pay $20,000 a year in taxes, if you are forced to contribute 5% to a pension, and after union dues, all that could add up to $25,000 a year coming out which would make great pay not so great. Im not trying to be rude I would just like to know if the union gigs are really worth it. Please correct me if Im wrong.

I'll be happy to correct you.
Last year, I grossed $65,000. Out of that salary, I paid about $2500.00 in Union dues; every penny tax deductible. On top of that $65,000 I got an additional $15,000 contributed into an annuity ( basically, a tax free savings account that I cant touch without penalty until I'm 59). Then, add an additional $12,000 a year into my pension. BTW, thanks to my pension, I get the earnings of $150.00 per month, per year worked. Example: I work 20 years, I get $3000.00 per month, every month, when I retire. That's on top of whatever savings in my annuity, which can be upwards of $300,000 or more. And, to top all this off, I have a great medical plan (that's in addition to my salary). And no deductions out of my salary of 65 grand: all contributions are in addition to. Not bad for Union dues of $2500.00.
Just think, if I worked non-union, I'd be lucky to get 12 to 15 bucks an hour. And I pay for whatever benefits out of this.
Also, keep in mind that the company that I work for is making record profits, as are all large companies that exist in the U.S.
Yessir', if they survived the downturn of a coupla" years ago, then they are thriving. But you see, they don't want you to know that. And they really feel threatened by the Unions. In fact, nothing terrifies most corporations more. After all, the more they spend for labor, the less the big CEO's at the top make for themselves. Instead of $40 million a year for one man, then he might only get $10 million instead. Bummer!
That's why they are paying big, big bucks to spread all kinds of misinformation as to the negative qualities of Unionized workers.

Sounds good. I hope you get to collect that pension. Nothing in life is guaranteed. American Airlines filed a bankruptcy in which their union retirees will not collect their pension benefits.

Here are my figures for last year.

    Gross for 2013-$87,269.25
    Taxes for 2013-$20,952.02
    Union dues for 2013-$886.00
    Net for 2013-$65,431.23
Pension-Company contribute $5.48 per hour for all hours worked. Nothing out of pocket for the employee.

All this working Monday thru Friday during the day and home every afternoon.

You failed to ask about benefits such as health, dental, vision, holidays, vacation days, sick days, jury duty etc. I guess that's for another day.

Is the union gig worth it? You be the judge.

Also have to factor in your cost-of-living. I was born and raised in L.A., but have lived in the Carolina's for 30 years. Anyone looking at the raw numbers has to take that into consideration.
