I think you should maybe read what you wrote and it does not matter who started your little school yard fight, you want to prove your point then provide evidence to back up your statements, not hearsay about Boeing and others you have documentation, emails from the executive offices from those companies stating they are bolting because of unions and nothing else then show us the money but don't be attacking other members of the forums in defence of your stance on unions. Some of us stuck in the 50's types know a lot more about unions and what they did for this country and workers from first hand experience over a period of decades rather than years. You will find the decline in the Detroit auto industry had more to do with holding onto old technology for dear life while other car manufactures were moving forward with new technology. I have a new flash all cars made now a days are plastic, look the same are cheaply made disposible like everything else. Nothing is made to last anymore.

well first of all no large company going to admit they moved to China or anywhere else cause of unions. You wouldn't nor I. But it's in the facts. Where are the unions now? Google is where the facts are. Not sure which major story but sure some seen it on Boeing a few years ago moved a major operation to South Carolina from west coast. The news did a story asking CEO if it was cause of the unions cause of the uproar it cause in that community of job losses. Look it up. Sorry I can't remember exact date/broadcast but it was major like 20/20, night line etc...about 2 years ago. Look at Volvo, BMW, Nissan plants just built recently. All in non strength union areas. They didn't go to Michigan, Ohio or Northeast where unions are holding their last breath. Facts are all around us. Granted some part Gov. And enviromentalist has blaim also but majority of closings we're cause of unions . Nothing wrong with agreeing to disagree here. I see your point. Have aunt and uncle retired from unions. GM and Yellow Freight. I seen they made awesome money. But as you see my point those 2 companies struggling. Yellow bought Roadway. They had to merge to save each other. It's just a matter of time till the union tightrope around their neck will end their reign. Guy posted on here other day how he's about to go to work for yellow. He knows he will strictly be on call when needed to make money to feed his family. The unknown daily. But at the same time he has to pay dues. Please tell me how that union helping him feed his family those first 2 years not knowing if he will work that week or next day? Very simple work you get paid. Lazy join a union. I survived fine in my life without union.

Back the original thread topic. The trucking industry is not the only one with declining wages. This is common among lots of industries. It is referred to as the decline in the standard of living among the middle class in the United States of America. The numbers are hard to refute, every recession gets longer, more and more people make less and less money. The effects are obvious everywhere. In going through my records of my business for the last 35 years I can prove it. X number of hours of labor used to result in wages = Y. Easily Y has declined in inflation adjusted $'s in my case by 30%. . But thats ok, I have an app on my smart phone to help me forget.

I don't have the time to be looking up obscure facts about unions, you mention companies moving to China could it be that they make about a dollar a day as workers there which is a lot cheaper than minimum wage here. Doesn't have anything to do with unions but a lot to do with taking advantage of the poor Chinese workers who are moving to the cities in droves because of the lack of work elsewhere. How about the clothing industry in Bangladesh do you think the workers there love the fact they work in horrid conditions in unsafe buildings just so that some American company can make more money. Building have collapsed there killing hundreds of worker at a time. It is not about unions it is about getting near slavery work from workers in poor developing nations. The global market and global economy are terms used by the greedy to enslave the poor in nations where they can pay a pittance for a days work. Where entire families even children have to work in order to have the most basic home and food often living in a single room hut. If they could get away with slavery they would, who was it that caused the recession we are still trying to claw our way out of ? It wasn't the American worker union or non it was the greedy of wall street. Companies will continue to move work outside to these poor nations until the government and the people wise up and stop buying into their BS it is up to you to provide the facts of what you are talking about.

I don't follow your logic then. On the one hand you say unions only help the lazy but on the other hand, your father chose to work in a union for 40 years but he was not lazy.

I wouldn't define him a lazy. But then again one person's lazy is another's go getter. Not sure how it's relevant either. BTW, I have never been in a union, nor has any one of my ancestors as far back as you want to go. You brought you father into it as an example of a lazy union worker so don't blame me for asking questions.

If you have lived through a plant closing instead of reading the spin on the news and google, you might understand there are many things that go into it.

Your wisdom tells us that only the lazy benefit from unions. OK, what happens when a plant starts out as non union but then votes to unionize? Why did they vote to unionize? Did management run out of good workers and eventually have to scrape the bottom of the barrel and hire lazy workers until the lazy workers were the majority? Did the workers start good but get lazy after a while? Why did they vote to unionize?

I agree but it all begin with unions. Companies started to wise up and look elsewhere cause the unions were driving up labor. Let's look at present and facts right now. Companies growing and building now this present day, are they union or mostly building in union stronghold states? No!! Their NOT!! Are the companies that have built factories in our country in recent years union or in union strong hold areas? NO!! Again if they do good why are they almost diminished? And not growing? Please answer that? Us out there working now and earning our raises not begging for unions to step in. Cause common sense says we work we get paid. And that there's no benefit of them . Plain facts all around us at this moment.

is this your saying recent and where? Please put urself in my thoughts. If you owned a company non union and always watched a lazy person your paying what would you do? You your company. Not going to keep him employed. If that worker in a union he can't be fired that easily and some has been lazy using that strength to stronghold companies. If a worker works like their hired to do they won't lose their jobs and get normal raises like we are now. So yes i will say my point is that's all their good for is protecting the lazy. Not at all knocking on the ones that was members and worked. Just saying we are right now living without them. No benefits to joining them. Work and get paid is only promise out there. I don't need to pay anyone my hard earned money to protect my job. I work to keep my job. So what good are they?
