It does not matter that one affects a persons reaction time less than the other.... they both affect one's reaction times... and a person needs to understand that all drugs and many foods affect your abilities. Legal or illegal, it is up to the individual person if they choose to use, to understand how it will affect them, and take responsibility for the consequences of their action, and how it may affect others when they climb behind the wheel.

IMHO
Any level of impairment while driving by illegal drugs, prescription drugs, or alcohol should result in a complete permanent ban on a CDL.
Medical marijuana should be legal for use by CDL holders ONLY when it can be tested for it's current effects on the driver, such as a breathalyzer for alcohol.
Given a choice and weighing the merits, if anything should be illegal for doing zero good and a lot harm - hands down it would be alcohol and not weed. There isn't a study out there that doesn't support this. -

The effects of smoking marijuana lasts for days after. Haha. That's the funniest thing I've read all day. Thanks for the laugh, Roadmedic!

I do not care if someone smokes it or not. I do not respond to medical calls involving it, since I want no exposure. It is your choice. But the links presented the information and all you have to do is read. -
In the metrics, the most impaired that they would drive before refusing to drive, was equilevant to a .04 BAC.
I never posted that 'stoned' driving should be legal. Just that stoned driver are safer than drunk drivers.
Cannabis causes a person to hyperfocus. Multi-tasking becomes more difficult. Driving while stoned creates a stimuli overload on the senses and makes them drive alot more cautiously, that stimuli overload can be so great that creates somewhat of a state of paranioa and may refuse to drive altogether. That cannot be said for alcohol. -

Cannabis affects ones ability to safely operate a motor vehicle... Driving is multitasking.... steering, throttle brake control, and most important, processing of the information the person sees.
Stoned drivers are NO safer than drunk drivers, they are both a danger. And it does not matter if the stoned truck driver is safer when he runs over that line of stopped cars, because he never processed the info that they were stopped, due to being impaired.bergy Thanks this. -
fastlanedanny - good post, but I have never heard of someone beating a hair test. That is kind of scary. How do these guys detox hair roots? Are you sure these guys weren't just spouting off?
Also, if you know about this stuff, how close are they to being able to test for MMJ impairment rather than past use? That is what is needed in my opinion.

I bring my one hitter with me when I go back on the road. I'll take a hit after my post-trip. I'll smoke a blunt if I'm assigned a hazmat load to calm my nerves.
HotH2o Thanks this.
