So since you decided to show your ###, I figured I would hand it back to ya. Here is my ORIGINAL post in this thread, about how manual or auto, a bad driver is still a bad driver.

Now either I missed something, or more likely, you missed something--particularly the part about me cracking a joke about Western Express in the post you quoted. ;) You're welcome.

The new Trans have road mapping and gps and reads the road ahead and can adjust shift points based on the grade if the down hill or up hill. It also shifts according to the weight of your load. They down shift ahead of time to keep you in the power curve for max power on hills. The technology in the new Trans are amazing.

I drive a smart shift freightliner and didn't have any problems in the winter even pulling tankers. I never once felt out of control. Shifting doesn't give you more control or make you a better driver. It means you know how to shift, nothing more nothing less. I drove manuals before this and I don't feel any less of a trucker now cause of the auto.

Here is one poster on TTR that needs experience with manual to get the job. Not the first that I have heard either that a company requires manual driving vs automatic. Unless companies get on the same page and accept auto as being ok, drivers are going to be stuck changing companies, there will be a lot of unhappy campers out there.

The way my Eaton 10 speed works is if I let off the accelerator it will coast. When I do hit the accelerator it will downshift to the appropriate gear. My auto will coast a lot further than a manual that isn't being manually downshifted. No lugging.

It cracks me up that the definition of a real trucker (in some peoples opinion) is whether or not you drive a manual. Also cracks me up that you're not in control if you drive an auto. I've only had my auto for 8 months but I prefer it over a manual. I can upshift or downshift with the push of a button or I can let the tranny do it's job. Never had a problem in the ice or snow with it. Guess I just know what I'm doing.....

I have no problem shifting manually. I do have problem with the different radios. I never can figure out how to set them up. And time zones, do you change the clock when you change time zones. And why can't Rush be on the same station all over the country.

Seems like the autos are completely different from brand to brand. Some guys say one thing, others say another.
