Legalized Weed Issues ....

One thing I find interesting about a lot of the medical marijuana users I know here in Michigan is they are always willing to light one up and share it with you. That always seemed odd to me.

I mean, I take medication for high cholesterol but I don't offer one of my pills to anyone who happens to be standing there when I take them.

I've often wondered how, where, and why the tradition
of passin' a joint or bowl around, sharin' it with whomever
else is present at the time., first began.

The two main strains of marijuana, cannabis - sativa and
cannabis - indica, have existed for thousands of years.
During that time there have been no problems in recorded
history that associate the ingestion of the sought after
pleasure producing effect of the active ingredient, THC.

Assuming research discovered evidence to the contrary,
marijuana became the "devil weed" almost overnight. To
protect citizens from themselves, our elected officials
classified it as a dangerous drug. To illustrate the ill effects
manifested when marijuana is ingested, our illustrious
leaders pointed to Mexico, and the laziness of the folks
who call that home. To drive the point further, the list
also included "negros", in particular their influential new
musical sounds, which we were informed was devil-music.
Devil weed produces black devil music. With that kinda
hard evidence what more proof is necessary?
Obviously Mexicans are lazy and shiftless and blacks
are evil. Blame it all on marijuana.

Me?
I call that racism and slander.
Those shoutin' from the mountain tops saw it as a
reason. Many reasons. Amazingly, very few actually
were supported by any facts whatsoever. Just the
aassurances of accuracy from those who made the
reasons up, for reasons other than the reasons claimed.

To demonstrate their commitment to protectin' the
vulnerable, gullible populace from potentially harmin'
themselves, it was decided that a relative of the
cannabis plant should be found guilty by association,
although nobody smoked, or otherwise ingested hemp.
But they might, even though one could smoke a pound
of hemp with no effect other than feelin' pretty sick.
The untold, probably unasked, reason why, is that hemp
plants contain only trace amounts of THC, nowhere near
an amount necessary to produce any "danger" level, --
real, imagined, or made up.

Whereas hemp won't make one "high", it has the ability
to make one wealthy. Hemp is a valuable cash crop. The
Colonists grew hemp for export to England, who profited
greatly from the sales made there.
Do y'all think those imitation injuns dumped tea overboard
into the Boston Harbor? A beverage that the colonists
enjoyed consumin' -- who were more than irritated by the
excessive taxes placed on their tea; considerin' the healthy
profits derived back home from their labor growin' hemp
here, across the pond?
That would hurt the colonists more than England. Wanna
kick 'em in the crotch, or in the wallet? The greater loss
would be a delivery service failure --- product not delivered.
The check for the tea-tax got lost in the mail. Bummers!
The actions of the colonists were considered Revolutionary.
As a result, a war was declared, also considered to be
Revolutionary, and so named.

When thangs don't seem to make any sense,
Follow The Money Trail.

Two birds vilified with one stone, marijuana and hemp.
What's not to like? Especially Willy Randolph Hurst,
who had millions invested in the pulp industries to
provide the paper required to keep the presses runnin'
in his vast newspaper empire. Hemp would produce a
superior product for far less cost. Couldn't allow that
to happen. Better to continue choppin' down spotted
owl habitat than to take a mega-buck hit in profits.

But, .......................... I digress.

What I find interesting now, is how many folks
insist on holding onto the propaganda and lies
we were told about marijuana, --- without any
research to support the claims whatsoever.
Now that research results are available and
those results debunk what we were told to believe,
some folks refuse to believe what scientific
studies have discovered, preferring instead
to continue believin' the words from a group
of leaders they probably will admit they don't
trust.
Go figure.

Perhaps they fear that the effects derived
from ingestin' marijuana might open their mind?
Imagine that.

Wow dude...if I was still smoking weed I'd say you were a buzz kill.
I was just making an observation that I have always found amusing. I didn't really expect a history lesson on Reefer Madness.

Btw...do you write a everything in verse?

There's another reason for you to not smoke weed, --- besides protectin' your CDL-A.
Now that you don't smoke weed, what would you say I am?
A word of caution though; should you ever find it legal for you to imbibe in the pleasure of smokin' marijuana, and decide to do so, --- be advised, the clinical marijuana available today is pushin' 30% THC content in some of the top shelf strains. Back in the day the content was around 10%. You may already be aware of that, but it's highly probable there are those readin' this who aren't (aware). Now they are.

I found the observation you were making to be amusing as well. It also reminded me of something that has raised my curiosity for quite a while. The result from there went where you read in my post.

That depends on how you read what I wrote. Your post was the catalyst that sparked a train of thought, not particularly aimed at you, but rather intended for those who are readin' this and aren't up to speed concerning the inroads made through clinical research that contradict the many misconceptions that have been presented as factual for (too?) many years. Hopefully, those who haven't kept up with the marijuana issues will become curious enough to take a closer look and adjust their opinion(s) when/if necessary.
My ultimate goal is knowing the truth of any given matter.
Nothin' else really matters.
I like to think others feel the same way.

I just write what I write the only way I know how to write it. Where it goes from there and how it appears after I click Submit Reply is out of my control. If you're readin' my writin' in verse, I have no explanation. If necessary, I'll start readin' what I write myself to see if everything is in verse. Presently I hardly ever read what I write right after I just wrote it.

I've seen it...that's why I brought it up and humorously related it to the book you posted above.

As for the 30% vs. 10%, that in itself may be one reason to return to the pipe post retirement. I'll certainly take it under advisement. Anything would beat that Mexican ditch weed we used to smoke in my neighborhood as kids.

However, the one major motivating factor to return to smoking weed would be to motivate me to do certain tasks I wouldn't normally be that motivated to do. I've never sat around with a half case of beer in me thinking, "Maybe I should go out and clean the garage." Weed on the other hand....

 

I had heard that back in the 70's THC was about 3%. I do know that the highest I've seen is 26%. The average top shelf is 17-22. CBD's are now nudging 1%
