    Couple things here:
1: The OPs thread is more rumor mill, without anything substantiating it. Like anything you read on the Internet, hear on Channel 19, are told at a truck stop counter, etc., it should be taken with a grain of salt.
2: The OPs thread is talking about a possibility for future Swift drivers - not current ones - and all of the trucks I've ever seen them list for sale on their site have either had 10 speeds or 9C transmissions.
3: None of that answers my actual question. He put forth this notion that driving a manual deters laziness, and I'm just not seeing it (I gave examples of why already). So how does that work?

Yes, one less thing to worry about. I agree. Yes, it could be an impairment for the future. I agree, but that's also their problem, and theirs alone to deal with. These are supposed to be adults, they should be able to figure out what to do if they find themselves in such a spot. Either they'll sink, or they'll swim, and that's on them. You're not out here to be their keeper, and neither am I.

You better tell the good folks at Volvo how wrong they are. Right from the Volvo i-shift brochure. First paragraph:
    http://www.volvotrucks.com/SiteColl...oducts/Powertrain/i-shift_brochure_050510.pdf

It appears you assume to much and know too little.

@Tommytoomanybikes ,so Volvo choose it's words unwisely.(it creates confusion about the way certain gearboxes work)
    Big deal.
Still doesn't alter the fact you cannot use a I shift as a manual gearbox.(with a stick)

I object to you to the way you portray certain things.

I stand by the definition i gave about the different versions off non manual gearboxes.(it is a earlier post in this thread)

But be honest, will anything anyone says to you change your view in the slightest??

Anyway,i will not turn this into a bigger pissing contest then it allready is and i wish you good luck on your travels.

It's NOT a good thing for a new drivers. I just posted my post in Manual vs. Automatic... topic- the way they do it for students' retention- when a student learn to drive a first truck with automatic, if he/she doesn't like the company they can't quit that easily because they don't have as many choices where to go as we do. So, new drivers, don't fall for that- go to school and the company that uses manual trucks- you'll have more choices later.

Hope they put in an ottoman in place of the stick shift.

The cab seems to be twice as big without that clunky chunk of steel eating up all that room in the middle.

I am sure all those that carry the kids, wife, dog/s and what not would love to get rid of that clunky chunk of steel eating up all that room, in the middle. I saw two women, in an SRT truck, the passenger woman was holding a baby! I don't think there is proper seating for a baby seat in a big rig!

When you start paying thousands for transmissions problems you'll go back to what a truck was meant to be. Everyone always jumps at this new technology junk and then cry when it puts them in the poor house. Who was it, western express I think, 2100 new trucks with autos. defective autos I should say. They went back to manuals after losing a #### ton of money on repair bills and got rid of those trucks.
I'll be driving my pre emission pete with it's 13 sp 10 years from now.

USXpress did the same thing, in fact, a lot of companies jumped on the auto ban wagon and went back shortly after loosing a butt load of money...
