I worked the office crap for four years and I'm done. This time last year I joined TTR and came to realize this is a realistic option for me. Hard work and the challenge of learning a whole new lifestyle is a change I'm willing to embrace with enthusiasm .office work is a repetitive waste of life.

ROEHL will not tolerate any type of harassment. In fact, the Female student has to call in each day to a Female liason to update her on how the Male trainer is treating her. This call is done away from the Male trainer, so as to not make the Female student feel intimidated in any way, and allows her to speak candidly .
And Female student (or Male student for that matter) can call in and simply say that they are not comfortable with their current trainer and ROEHL will find them a new one.
Although I have never had it happen to me, sometimes 2 perfectly good people just have personality conflicts that make them incompatible to be a tight space (like a truck) with each other. But if there is ever a trainer that has very many students request a new trainer, then he will most likely not be training very long.
I also know what you are saying when you said "" I witnessed too much nonsense like that when I was in the army to put myself in such a position""
I served as the Battalion E.O. Rep when stationed in Ft Lewis, and had to look into many allegations of both sexual and racial harassment/Discrimination.
Basically, if a person has the "perception" that you are harassing/discriminating against them, then you are doing something wrong.
PS-Kim is great. She was my first fleet manager back before she moved over to recruiting. I always tease her by telling her I can find her cubicle in the large main building with dozens of cubicles simply by looking for the one with a Halo hanging over it.
Of course, the ladies in the adjoining cubicles all gag and cough when I say that...

Thank you for taking time to alleviate my concerns. It's good to have one less thing to worry about. Now to conquer my impatience to begin! I'll get going on the CDL manual and getting paperwork together.

I'm college educated and left a 14 yr law enforcement career to come out here. Many thought I was crazy too, but I wouldn't change a thing. Screw the office politics. Give me the freedom of the road each and every day.

I'm college edgeamacted as well. Have an electronics degree. Worked in security for 2 years where I was my companies dedicated tech to install access control, surveillance, and burg systems in comcast buildings. Hated the company I worked for. Liked the work though. Left that company for a home theater company. I spent most my time in several million dollar houses installing speakers and displays that I would never be able to justify spending money on, but since it was a small business, little money, no benefits, no more company vehicle to take home. Every one except my family thought I was nuts coming to truck driving. The only thing I dislike about the job is that I miss my wife and sometimes miss some races I'd like to participate in. I can always move to local or regional/linehaul after some experience.

I have more energy, less stress, lost weight, and I'm seeing places I never would have gone to otherwise.

Thank you for sharing! I am happy to hear stories like yours and many others I've read on here. Your background is very similar to my husband's. I hope he'll want to drive after he sees me succeed but he may remain a field electronics tech (currently with dish network).

The degree I'm finishing up is in Library and Information Science. I enjoy the busy work in the circulation department but the administrative desk work (for which my degree is suited) is not my style--not sure what I was thinking! I am customer service oriented but prefer to work independently from co-workers and library work seems to be group-project happy these days. Bleh!

At the same time, I did have a job which would have been dream work if it paid any money. I was a cnc machine programmer and operator, designing, engineering, and making custom parts for F 2000 race cars. I once made a set of hubs (for 4 cars plus spares) with .00025"+- tolerance which allowed us to run 4 piston brake calipers instead of the standard 2. Just as an idea on how tight that tolerance is... A piece of paper is about .003" thick. I got paid $1000 a month to make tons of custom parts. Would have cost them close to $200k to make all the parts I did. I still loved it. I should have been an engineer. Still may look into it.

Bwahaha!!! You are soooooo related to my husband! He was an army calibrator, not really into cars but the precise measuring sounds just like him. I acknowledge details are necessary but they aren't my main focus. On the other hand I don't NEED a gps system and he does. Maps are just fine by me, though gps systems are convenient.

    A few more Qs:

    1. At what point does one decide which fleet to join? I don't feel able to decide without more experience and am hoping it's sometime near the end of school.

    2. Does the 7/3 7/4 slipseat? (I know the 7/7 and 7/14 do.)

    3. Which hotel does the school use?

    4. After hire, for the OTR training, does my trainer pick me up or do I travel somewhere to meet him/her?

That's all for now. Thank you!

1, You decide on a fleet when you enroll in school. Pretty sure you can change fleets after 6 months.

    2. All home time fleets slip seat that I'm aware of.

    3. In Marshfield you stay at the Woodfield Inn I believe it's called? It's ok. Nothing special, but not a total dump either.

    4. When you're ready for your trainer you are usually picked up at your nearest terminal. Plan on being out with him/her for at least 10 days or so. Some finish sooner, some later.
