I made $52,000 last year, should make just over $55,000 this year. I work 3rd shift 930pm to between 530-6am delivering auto parts to dealerships. 1-2 times a week I come in 1.5 hours early to shuttle pdc freight from Chrysler to our cross dock for $32. Benefits aren't expensive. $19 for 80/20 $750 ded $2,500 out of pocket max. $3 dental, $1.50 vision , I pay a total of $18 for short term and long term disability that covers about $630 a week. I've been here 2 years, I get 2 weeks paid vacation. Though personal days are unpaid, the do allow you to take them unlike some places. If for some reason I wanted to take a 4 week vacation this year to wherever, they will give you that extra 2 weeks unpaid as long as you are a good worker who comes in on time everynight. Never do I work over 45 hours.. A buddy of mine works for Sysco and says I could make 70k my first year but I'd work 60 hours a week. So either 60 hours for 70k or 40-45 hours for 55k? Well, money isn't everything!

you work non union, I was stating the maximum of a 6 dollar an hour difference, which you do NOT have, since you stated you aren't union, you must NOT be working for UPSF, and making 27 an hour.

since you want to play with facts, I suggest you state the rough difference between your pay and a yrc p&d driver, if you will. id bet its only 3-4 an hour, plus you pay for health insurance, so factor that in too. at 4 dollars an hour difference, at 40 hours a week, you have a 160 dollar difference, gross. pre tax health insurance, say you have a good plan, Old Dominion pays around 90 a week. So now you are down to 70 dollars difference, before taxes. Maybe you have a better price on health insurance, or a lower value plan.

the max numbers you state are extremely ambitious, as you are counting on making 70 hours a week, at ups freights rate, which I doubt you make. I suggest shopping for an apartment, since you are living on a lot of ambitious hopes for the gravy train to never stop.....

that's good money for 45 hours a week! is that DLI out of Minnesota? I've seen them at dealerships around here. Good call on NOT going to Sysco, who knows what they plan on doing with different terminals, now that they bought US Foods out. I work at US Foods, and the money is there, but the job is not worth it, long term you will have back, knee, and shoulder problems for the money.

btw, Oxmorel, I am not blind that there are many very good jobs out there that aren't union, trust me, US Foods still sucks, and we are union! I have a friend of mine that hauls steel and makes excellent money, and gets home most nights and weekends, and he isn't union. I am considering making a move to this, just because I want to have knees left in a decade. I just don't like the outdated YRC bashing, I have friends that work there, it still is a better job than a lot out there, a lot of jobs still don't pay over 15 an hour, 40 cpm, with expensive health insurance that's not very good.

You are correct sir! As far as Sysco goes I do agree about the back problems and such. I worked at Pepsi for a year and a half and that job was tough, but I figured I could've made it 10 years. It was the driving more than an hour to work in chicago and 1.5-2 hours back home is what really killed me. DLI has been a nice fit for me, plus handling the car parts is tons easier considering the lightweight crap most cars are made of these days. My brother works for a miller distributor making 95k-105k a year, down side is he's 32 and has been seeing a chiropractor for 5 years now. Not worth your body.

Oxmorel you can carry on a conversation without the name calling. This is one of the reasons we moved union talk down to the unmoderated forum is for the huge disagreements that turn into fights.

If you all can't behave yourselves the thread will be locked.

yep, im 29, and out on comp with a 2nd time torn left acl, im waiting for surgury. my orthopedist told meat my first appt that i'm going to be a permanent partial disability. its got me considering my options, because being a ppd, im going to end up with restrictions on how to use it, and its not going to be feasable to run up and down a ramp and greasy stairs with 7-8 tons of food product anymore....

Again... I'm referring to a company's competitive strength and profitability... you're continuing to miss that. I talk to and see YRC, R&L, ABF, FEDEX FREIGHT, SMT, RAC, SAIA, AVERITT, CONWAY, USF, ESTES and CT guys every night. Rarely have I met a night time freight hauler that I didn't like. It's not an attack on the employees but rather the employer faili.g to adapt to the constantly changing realm of LTL.

i agree, why do you think i said some things are coming to and end, like it or not? why pay a lh driver 55cpm plus bennies when you have tl drivers lined up to sub it out for 30 cpm? im not looking for arguements, i am foodservice right now. you couldnt pay me enough to take a freight job because like i said, imo, they are going to start trimming the fat, and a lot of guys who didnt realize it, the jobs they have will be gone in a few years, you cant replace a p n d driver, but road drivers should think about that.....
