I havr never driven a 18 speed tranny. Ive only driven 10, are they much different? I dont drive by engine speed or rpm but rather by sound of engine. Trucks i drive suck so there is always some kindof shifting for me to do. Ive driven internationals, freightliners (suck) and volvo 10 speeds.
Are the 18s hard to drive? To my knowledge no, basically a high and low range for each gear.

shift an 18 like a 9..You can just split each gear in half steps in both low/high ranges.

Unless you are really heavy there is no need for low side splits.

Like a 13 only the low range gears are split as well the high tho you won't use the low range splits all that much. Not to difficult to learn but it may take a little longer to master and get good at it. Once you do you'll love it tho. They are great for pulling hills with a load.
I've got the 13 and it took a few weeks to really get the hang of it and now it's like riding a bike.

You need to start watching your tach. What you hear or think you hear is what tears up engines. An 18 has shift points that are about 200 rpms apart compared to about 400 on 10. Most companies spec 10s for those who drive by feel or sound to destroy and others give 13/18s to professionals who can use the gears correctly and without tearing up the splitter or main gears. 18 is a great tranny if you take the time or someone who knows shows you the proper way to shift it. Never any situation where you don't have a gear to take care of it.

It's just like a 9 and 13spd. 13 you only put it in OD on the high side. 18 you can put it in OD on both sides.
All my trucks are 10 spds. I hate 13 and 18 speeds. I hate super 10's..

Really. I had never driven a 13 til this truck. When I was looking for a truck many a old timer told me to go 13 or 18 and I held out for 2 months til I found a 6NZ with a 13 and after a few weeks of getting use to it I wouldn't buy a 10 ever again.
You're the first driver I've come across that didn't like the 13 or 18 other than those that didn't know how to drive them. What don't you like about them? I'm curious.

18 speed shifter is a 3 level shifter high medium and low.Run the gears in low move the shifter after that to mid level, use the gears you want and go to high level. Not in use much anymore.

I don't know. I might be lazy, but I like my trucks they are all 10 speeds.
