I did Federal Paper Logs for about 30 years in another industry and then about 12 on Elog type systems, and most drivers miss the point:
1. It is about control, you're right there.
2. The accident rate on E-Logs is a lot lower on drivers running them as opposed to Paper.
3. E-Logs mean Qual Comms which mean computer parameters which cover GPS, Critical Events, RPM Parameters, etc.
The company cam monitor 90% of what you do now, in the next year it will be 99% (SB's won't have cameras, but the driver seat will).
And we should consider ourselves lucky, as the LEO's/1st Responders, Aviation and Railroads have been using this technology for years.
The people who want to drive will continue driving, those who can't (Or won't) deal with it will be either retiring or entering the Fast Food Industry.
No disrespect to all the great drivers on here, just stating the obvious.
paper log or electronic logs?

sorry wrong the peoplenet runs on sat and radio comm just like your cellphone it hooks into the computers on your truck, if you unplug your speed sensor the system will not let you go from off duty or on duty not driving to driving as it thinks the truck is not moving. You cannot install them into trucks that do not have computers for the engine/truck. Which is why you can get a signal even when you are in an area where you cant lock onto sat signals. Qualicomm is the same way. So you are not correct they do need the trucks computer system to work. Have one in each of my volvo's I know how they work I also know that when installed you will start getting errors in you trucks diagnostics because to install them you have to remove a inline resistor part of the dignostics so you can hook them up to the computer. My '65 KW cannot have a elog system installed as you have nothing to hook it into.SheepDog Thanks this. -
I stand corrected.
