The main ones are the Trans-Canada Highway. I only been up there once so maybe the crazy kanucks can answer.

Trans Canada #1 goes all the way across. Well from the west coast of BC to east edge of MB it is #1 - then in Ontario (we are so smart) we call it Trans Canada #17. Then there is an alternate route, Trans Canada #11. In Ontario our major highways are all "400" series roads. We do not have any type of system where you do, as in say, odd numbers are north/south and even are east/west, or 3 digits beginning with even number are a loop around a city, 3 digits beginning with odd will dump you from the big road into the city. You better just have a clue as to where you are supposed to go. We do have exit numbers that correspond with distance (by kilometers) - but we rarely use them. We use the names of the roads instead. Quebec has made their own similar "interstate" looking signs, same coloUrs - slightly different shape - but the numbers again, do not do the E/W - N/S thing. East of Quebec, I do not know, never been there. Maybe more logical east of Quebec. Whenever I get as far as QC I turn around and come west or south again.
We also don't have huge billboards advertising where the truck stops are. You better have an idea where they are. Our scales have all been rebuilt into enormous super-coops, and it is a total crap shoot if they will be open or closed, ANY TIME, ANY DAY of the year. I have heard we pay them extra to work holidays. Also - if you need directions, the CB will probably remain silent, even though there are many trucks on the road. Forget about asking if the scale is open or where the cops are. If anyone says anything, you will likely get a snide remark of, "what's it matter, you should be running legal and truck governed to 105 (65mph)". Thanks for the help.
Welcome to Canada. Home sweet home ..................NavigatorWife and Clyde07 Thank this. -
