Any hope the 34 hour rule will get repealed?

Oh yea there will be problems and for those who do a lot of stopping at truckstops, they will see their income take a huge nosedive.

 

Id plan my 30 minute break in with my fuel stop for the day so I wouldn't have to stop twice.

 

Another fault with it, the companies will set your appointment for say 11am and tell you to get it on down there as early as you can but if you get there at say 7 and they still hold you til 11 to unload you, there goes 4 hours of your time right there. I never showed up more than an hour before the appointment time. That's how i would set my schedule.

 

Some here would say "what? are you driving the truck or is the truck driving you?" I'm the same way. I try and consolidate stops into as few as necessary and end my day ASAP but some here give off the vibe "you should enjoy life and trucking and don't sweat the details, you'll get there when you get there"

 

lol yea well that will change when they get those elogs in the trucks, or either their income will drop? Me personally, I don't drive for free, so I get the job done then worry about socializing, while Im on my break. That elog has no mercy.

 

The last company I worked at set the appointment that they gave you at 3 hours before the true appointment time. So, you had to arrive at that time in order to not get a service failure, sit for 3 hours, then give them 2 more hours before detention kicked in.

 

Yea see stuff like that needs to stop and we were going to address it with the Congressman when we met him and gave him our demands, which we did but since only 30 trucks showed up Im sure they just chunked those demands in the garbage?

 

Stuff like this is why the driver needs to be paid by mileage and hourly pay. It would stop them from using you as free labor.

 

Yea I at least think the detention should be enforced and paid to the driver, maybe it would stop some shipper/consignee abuse? They don't care how long you sit because they know the trucking companies aren't going to do anything about it.

 

True. Especially when a company dictates that you get there at a specific time. Arrive and wait. Be on the clock. The company would be paying the driver and then the incentive would be there to get the driver going. Simple and effective.
